Hiya, Im getting my green cheek conure in a couple of weeks.

We have the cage ready and currently have a ladder with toys coming off, and string toy that dangles with different colours hanging off, and 2 perches.

I would like to get a hut - I have been looking at the cozzzy make pouches?

Anyone got any suggestions, and what other things to decorate the cage for JET:green2:

Conures really need a lot of wood toys for chewing, and they usually like it even more if it has a bell on it. They also really like preening toys, like soft cotton rope (although you need to check it often for long strands they could become entangled in).

I would also get a cement perch and put it highest in the cage so your bird has something to groom it's nails and beak with.

When Rowdy was young she really liked swings. Now she seems to spend more time destroying them than swinging on them.

I tried Happy Huts, Cozy corner, Snuggle Huts & another I cannot remember. Finally I found Sunrise Solutions Home and purchased the medium for Molly. I received it a two days later and upon installing it in the cage Mollie ran right in and began doing summersaults. Yes it cost more but it is well made and if anything gets chewed up or torn you can buy individual parts for it. I highly recommend it.

Rowdy never used the sleeping tent I got her. She just destroyed it, lol!

My other conure used it for about her first year and then she didn't want it anymore either.

I would be extremely careful with happy huts, conures as they get older tend to shred them slowly over time, I have actually found one of my birds hanging by her neck from a damaged chewed happy hut. Lucky i was home & was able to get to her in time. I am now of the opinion that they shouldn't be used at all. However i know how conures love to sleep in a nest box, i now offer all my young conures a little wooden nestbox to sleep in.

My conures love those little cat balls with the bell in side. Also little foot toys. I do a lot of my shopping in the baby dept of KMart or Big W. Even the $ stores have toys suitable for GCC'S

Persie has a cozy hut and he loves it, he will snuggle himself in and make all sorts of noises as he sleeps, I wouldnt want to leave him without one overnight now, I think he see's it as his baby blanket, whenever he is scared its the first place he heads to.

I would also recomend the cat balls, he loves to chase his around the cage, infact anything with bells in he loves, even the large bell that he puts his head inside and rings it....

My sun conure loves his bed. Though i must confess i made it myself with some soft material and cardboard. Considering they destroy them quickly, i like the cheap route, lol.

We were also warned about the happy huts. I bought one for our sun conure and was talking to the breeder about them when I picked JJ up. He strongly encouraged us to remove the hut he said in the past 2 years he has had people call him up because their sun conure babies have been feral again and don't want to leave their cages. The breeder said that is extremely odd for his babies and than he found out all 3 people used the happy huts and they all said their conures never left their little beds. So we took ours out and took it back to the store we never offered it to JJ.

My little boys name is Jett. :) he's 6.

On topic though, gypsy and mystic went in their hut for the first hour and have never gone back in. they just chew it. My Sun loved hers from the time I got it. I think it depends in the bird. But I liked the idea of having somewhere they could rest their feet. I'm still trying to find something. Even looking into making something like a jolly ball. Cause I'm not spending that kind of money. But I'm always on the lookout for new fun things to make and create.
