Can you believe my baby B&G is almost 8 months old?! Wow has time flown by!
Here's my confusion. My vet and bird friends are all saying Rhage should be able to crack open whole in shell walnuts, make splinters out of large chunks of wood, and be all about using that big powerful beak of his....
From day 1 of him coming home, pressure training has been #1. We enforce time outs(so well so most times just the threat of it changes his tune), when he gets to rough or out of hand he gets told no and put away for 5-10 minutes.
He's great about pressure. He loves to play on his back. Loves making his happy baby noises as I rub his head feather's backwards till he falls asleep.
However... I'm wondering if I've done to much pressure training. He won't crack open anything except pistachios and peanuts. He won't chew on anything more than 1/4 inch thick. And he won't do anything with his beak he has to use more than a few pounds of pressure to do.
So I've been having toys special made of cardboard, those little basket like balls, paper, and easy to break apart things.
My vet and friends say by now he should be looking for things to break and condition his beak with. But he isn't.
Is this normal, or did we take pressure training to far?
