- I now have a young Hahn's macaw. I used to have a Pacific Parrotlet that lived until almost 15. Before that I had a budgie.
Exactly 1 year ago today my sweet bird boy hatched from his egg. He's been having a good time ever since.
To celebrate, we invited him to breakfast with us. Yesterday I baked some birdie muffins, and when he arrived at the table with my husband I presented his muffin (warmed) with one candle on top. Hubby and I were singing the Happy Birthday song.
As usual, my bird boy preferred to eat my husband's muffin (yes, hubby ate a birdie muffin, too), and stole some of his orange juice. He was afraid of his his presents, perhaps because he was still a little tired. When we went back upstairs, he took a little nap. He's now looking out the window at the grackles and other birds at the feeder.
His favorite games are to do what my hubby calls "cartwheels", which are more like log rolls, where he goes onto his back and likes us to play with him in that position. He also adores throwing all of his toys off his play gym onto the floor and hanging upside down, and playing with his cage toys.
He does his duty on demand and even knows how to say "Kaka na papirek" ("Go on the paper" in Czech). He also says "Step Up", "Kiss" (in Czech), "Good" in Czech, my name, "Come here" in Czech, and "Hop". He laughs like a human, makes a kissing sound, says "Cockadoodaldoo", and various other sounds that are pretty cool. For some reason he won't say his own name. My husband thinks he's said my husband's name.
For some reason his flight feathers are yet to grown in. They were trimmed at least 6 months ago when we adopted him.
