Some of you may remember that I got a new female cockatiel, Rue, who has been with us since Dec. 19, 2018. One of my males, Boo (lost his mate last year), was very intrigued with her. They sat side-by-side in a cage next to each other for a week before I let them all out to fly around and meet.
While Ember, my hand-fed 9 month old male was not interested nor was Rue in him, Boo was very interested in her but was respectful of her space. They had an instant connection, being around the same age (Boo is 7, she is around 6) maybe that had something to do with it.
I put Rue and Boo back into the same cage together (Boo's side of the double flight cage) and watched them very closely for the next few hours. To my surprise, within these first few hours of being caged together they were mating!

Since then the two have never been far from each other. They sleep near each other, eat together (she is still learning to share, lol), preen each other, Rue will take treats now from my hand and the two seem really happy together!! If all things work out, maybe I will add a nestbox this spring
