The price of Hyacinths.....

Tab_xo what I breed is in the top part with my name and all(header?) don't know what it's called. Lol

Supply and demand doesn't work when people can't afford what they would otherwise demand and be able to pay for.

I see The real problem as politicians who manipulate to become government leaders and then give (and sustain) huge tax cuts only to wealthy business owners/CEO's/share holders/corporations. That's essentially a transfer of wealth from the middle class to the super rich class, and IT is what's been killing our country. Those hugely rich business owners hoard the extra money rather than using it to create new domestic jobs (as they and their crony capitalist leaders claim they will do). They then outsource their manufacturing and services to less expensive areas of the world so they can make even more money. I think that's what will end up making it impossible for more middle class folks to acquire birds such as Hyacinth Macaws and Black Palm Cockatoos. And in some cases it may well make it impossible for many of those who already own those magnificent birds to keep them.

I salute you, Plax! Amen to that.

Here is another way of thinking about the price of a Macaw of any type.
think about the most expensive thing you ever purchased. I'm sure it was more then 50,000 per in the hundreds of thousands.
Then stop for a moment and think, Will I own this thing for the nest 75 or so years. I bet you might answer, most likely not. I know I buy a new car every 5 years at approx 25,000 to 30,000.

If you think of it under these terms. 50,000 for 75 years is a real bargin. So i would say off to the bank to get that loan. lol

Excellent! I'm glad someone shares my logic. I tried explaining, in these terms, the purchase of a hyacinth (or any expensive bird, for that matter) to my parents and boyfriend. Then they warmed up to the idea when I put it in that perspective. Still a ways off before I'm in a situation where I can do that but... I don't drive, I don't purchase clothes/make-up/expensive trinkets..... I just want my bird pals! :)
