I posted a few weeks ago about how I was going to be adopting a 7 year old green wing macaw. You all were so incredibly helpful and so I decided I'd let you all know how things are going!

I can't believe how incredibly smooth everything has been. Spike (I still think I'd like to change his name eventually), seems to have adjusted to his new surroundings remarkably well and has gotten comfortable with me and the house much faster than I thought he would.

He will step up for me without a problem. He comes down his cage onto the couch when he wants head scratches. He climbs down on the floor and walks around after me if he decides I'm not paying enough attention to him lol. He tosses me his ball off his cage and will roll it to me when he's on the floor. He waves his foot when I say hi. He plays peekaboo and is quickly destroying every toy I bought for him. And he LOVES, LOVES, LOVES being misted. He stretches his wings all the way out and shakes his tail feathers around like he's dancing. He also sticks his head under the sink faucet when I'm doing dishes or cooking.

He also has a really awesome vocabulary, even if he won't talk if there's anyone in the room. So far I've heard (while hiding around the corner so he thinks he's alone and will actually talk) hi, hello, i love you, mama, peekaboo, tickle tickle, thank you, achoo, step up, and come here.

Maybe it's the honeymoon period, but man do I feel like I won the parrot adoption lottery!

What a beautiful bird - so glad he's settling in well! Maybe just shorten his name to "Ike" so he still recognizes it lol - sure doesn't look like a Spike to me :)

Oh, wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww...
Congratulations!
I'm so happy for you BOTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats he is lovely. Hope he thinks he won the parront adoption lottery too LOL.

Enjoy your time together. :)

MY HONEYMOON PERIOD WITH MAGGIE LASTED 17 YEARS...

These birds are just that mushy and loving when they are properly socialized and their attention needs are met.

That's honest to god their basic nature, unless someone screws them up! Just friggin' amazing!!!

I'm considering trying an aviator harness with him. I've heard that it takes a long time to get them used to one, but he seems to take everything else in stride, maybe I'll luck out there too. Does anyone know if the sizing chart is accurate, with XL being the size for green wings?

Took a short video of bath time today too! The cameraman was 7, so I'll get a better angled one eventually but still pretty cute!

XL is the correct size for a green Wing. Just received mine a few days ago. You should order from the parrot wizard. He has the best pricing on the internet and super fast shipping. :red1:
