Chesphoto - Thanks for the congrats. I think that is good advice for Heather. I believe she is in Michigan so she would have to find a shelter there. I hope it works out for both of you at some point!

Copper - Your cage is very similar to the one I ordered. Mine is an off brand, too. I couldn't afford to buy an expensive brand or buy it locally so I bought mine on Amazon.com. Quincy's cage I purchased on Amazon as well and it's held up much better then the last one I had. I've been told that Sinbad is not a chewer, but I will believe that when I see it! The cage is 78" H x 46" L x 36" W. Her current cage is shorter then me and I'm only 5' 4" tall! So I think she will love her new spacious home!

I can't believe they had Rosie in a conure cage all those years! No wonder she is happier! And of course she is happy to have a great bird parront now, too! :)

Chasroth - I am so looking forward to brining her home. I'm getting anxious and wish the next 4 days would pass quickly! I had to wait until Tuesday because it's my only day off from the store! *sigh* I keep telling myself to just be patient, it will get here. LOL! :)

Wow, I love those dimensions. You'll see a whole new bird start to come out because of it :) and I understand money haha, I'm a college student, no way would I of been able to afford the cage I wanted.

It wasn't as bad as it could of been. Since they were home all the time her cage door was open most of the day and she could climb up to the play top were she liked to scratch her head. She came into my friends life in a small parakeet cage! They had to cut her out, and when they did poor Rosie was terrified since she was abused and flew all around the room. I hope she was truly loved at some point in her past, but I find it unlikely :(

I may have photos of her old cage from when I posted it in CG. It was pretty uggly with white and black layers of paint showing with exposed metal and even rust. I'm very sad to say the cage went to a couple who were going to use it for their Cuban amazon, they said temperary and I can only hope it was.

I love the dimensions, too! I bought the biggest one I could get. I'm looking forward to seeing how she reacts to her new home over time.

I guess the Conure cage isn't so bad since they did let her out all the time. But a parakeet cage is insane. I'm sorry that she had to go through all that. But remember, she has been loved at some point in her life, and that point is now! Sounds like she finally ended up in the perfect place.

I really do hope the people who took your conure cage did use it temporarily. We can only hope!

Savannah will have an AWESOME cage!!! :D GREAT dimensions! I don't think it will take her much time to get used to it at all. :)

I don't think it will either. Thanks Wendy!

Cothngratulations Blanca, what an exciting time for you.

Heather, I feel so bad for you. I know what it is like to have something just out of reach, yet still want it. As others have said, the price seems high and sounds like they are trying to get the most money out of the deal instead of trying to find the best home. That may explain why the bird is a plucker, the owners don't have the right priorities...

You and I are in the same boat, we both would offer a great home to a bird in need. I got frustrated with the high prices that owners wanted for their neglected macaws so I decided to take another route. I found a shelter that doesn't charge anything for their birds. The catch is that they make you volunteer at the shelter and they wait for a bird to bond to you.

I think that is a great way to adopt a bird for people like us. We invest the time and we find a parrot that really wants us. If you are in Arizona, pm me and I will give you the details of the shelter, otherwise look around and see if you can find a shelter like this.

thank's for the suggestion, i actually have some paper work right now for a rescue that does the same thing but they take donations, and i'm sure if i wanted to volunteer for them i could, but they didn't mention anything of that sort. i also think they do a home inspection too, so they make sure that the birds are going to a safe place.

If you do decide to get the old cage for her comfort, I would recommend having the new cage already set up in your home when she gets there. Set up the old cage right beside it and wait for her to go exploring on her own. When she feels comfortable walking on top of it, start putting treats on and in the cage until she feels comfortable going inside, then PRESTO! Tempt her with toys in the cage as well.

This was how we decided which of our greys would get the new cage we brought home. Bad idea for a male and female to be housed together, so we put food in the new one and waited until one of them crawled in voluntarily. 4 hours later the boy shimmies down the bars and climbs inside. He loves it now, and there was no stress on his end.

Thanks Heather!

Karigan - Good suggestion. I'm not sure how I'm going to do it just yet. We hope to get the cage today and set it up tonight! Thanks!

My GW's cage is 48 by 36. Its huge. Your girl will love it. I would trow out the dowel rod perches it comes with and add some good ones.

chasworth - We just put it together tonight, it was huge! LOL! I always buy better perches. The dowels are not the best for their feet. Thanks for the tip though. :)
