Lilo - Female Green Cheek Conure ~ Pal - male cockatiel ~ Pheobe - female cockatiel
So yesterday my dad and I went to Olive garden my mom was in OR so we decided to do something fun then we went to friends then I said "hey dad can we go to the old pet store?" He said yes so we went and there was a Comodo Dragon and some glowing neon fish! They were awesome! But of course I made a B line to the birds and I saw a B&G macaw and a Catalina witch was only $699 but all of them had no toys and were just sitting there like it didn't matter what happened to them! :( But surprisingly I went to the Yellow Crowned Amazon instead of the big flashy Macaws whom I always go to first but I saw him and I talked to him and he motioned for me to scratch his head but I didn't really trust him and he talked to me I talked to him and it was so wired but there was something telling me that I needed this bird and he needed me. So I looked at the price and it said NOT FOR SALE! Aw man I was so bummed! The owner said that he never comes out of his shell like that and he doesn't like people! He had no toys and sits there all the time! So I had to leave Tich ( I named him that) and there feels like there's a hole in my hart I never feel like this towards random birds! We will be going back soon to get a Turtle so maybe Ill see him then but has anyone felt this way towards a pet? It was different then seeing a cute bird I LOVE parrots and I enjoy just seeing them but it was like he's been my bird forever :/ Sorry that was long but I just wanted to share this. Hope you enjoyed!

I know exactly what you mean! That's happened to me before. But there was one that I've been looking at for over a year but no one bought him. He ended up moving to a different store the day we went in to buy him so it was very disappointing. Good luck to ya! ;)

Sometimes, just because they are friendly to you in their current environment, that could change once you get them home into a new and potentially scary environment.

I've had a macaw that really took to me, but I really don't know if he was like that to everyone or just select people or what. He looked healthy and happy, not abused, and he was already someones pet! I enjoyed his antics but I certainly didn't need him!

why was he not for sale?

MikeyTN: Thank you! Im sorry about the bird, that would be even harder when you think oh im getting an angel but then no. But you've got lots of little earth angels! :D

MonicaMc: I thought about that earlier. Maybe if I did bring it home, it might have turned in to a monster! So maybe it was for the best!

Crimson: He was the store owner pet but he was in with all the other for sale birds with two not for sale birds and one didn't even have a sign so I asked about it and they said its not for sale and looked at me like I was robbing the store or something!

You never know really....

I've heard stories of people who have these sweet, loving birds but for some reason they have to rehome them! New owner gets the bird home and the bird is not anyway close to as described!

Likewise, I've heard of owners rehoming aggressive, out of control birds, the new owner gets the bird home and it's sweet, gentle, and loving! The new owner things the previous one was absolutely nuts!

And there are plenty of birds who may also act the same with a person where they are at as well as in the home. May take an adjustment period, but otherwise their behavior doesn't change.

You simply don't know until you take the plunge! And maybe because this amazon is aggressive is the reason why the store isn't looking to find the bird a home. Of course, if the right person came along, who knows, they might change their mind! Again, hard to say.

That sort of thing has happened to me twice-- once with a 4-month-old female Yellow-naped Amazon, once with a 7-month old male CAG. As soon as I walked into the pet store, the YNA would climb on my shoulder, and didn't want to leave; one of the store clerks would have to coax her off with a favorite treat. :) The CAG never wanted to step up for any of the people who worked in that pet store, but would jump right onto my hand and ask for scritches. :) In both cases, the parrots were for sale, unlike your Amazon-- but I simply couldn't afford the high prices asked for them, along with the cost of a good cage and lots of parrot toys. I visited both birds in the stores until someone finally bought them. I still think of them and "what might have been," but couldn't be. :(

Oh yea I've got more then my share cause we're soft hearted people. But seriously must tell people no now. We tell people don't bring any unwanted animals around us. They can call but we don't want to look. Just spent several hundred on Jaxon for vet care. But he's worth every penny, the sweetest kitten in the whole wide world, it breaks my heart how could anyone throw such a sweet heart outside to fend for themselves or any animal period.

Yes if the bird were for sale, I would pay nickel and dime to get him to a better home. Maybe next time they will take it out I hope!

I had it happen recently with two dogs. I do a lot of dog rescue work so I'm constantly getting emails from people wanting my group to take dogs. Obviously we can only help a fraction of the dogs we are contacted about. 6 months ago I was contacted about two brothers 1000 miles away. I normally help only local dogs since we certainly have enough here that need help. But as soon as I read about these boys I knew they were mine. It took several months and almost fell through once but I am so happy to say that they are here with me now and it feels like they were here always.

Now, about that "comodo" (it's really Komodo) - please explain.

why don't you go back and ask him, and offer a price. he can only say NO, but it might be worth a try. If you keep bugging him he might give in too :)

Sonja: I'm glad you got the dogs! :) and sorry I did mean Komodo dragon sorry

Crimson: I don't know, I would feel kinda sad if someone wanted Lilo but maybe. :)

I wasn't questioning your spelling- I am questioning what type of lizard they really have! Komodo dragons are extremely rare, dangerous, huge endangered species. I'm sure that no pet store has one. So, I'm curious to hear more about what they did have!

OOOooohhhhh ok ya he said Komodo but of corse just like half the stores pets, it wasn't for sale but I did not want it! He said he gives it food through a tray thingy that opens up like a door so he doesn't risk any lives or body parts feeding it. It was very big and I have seen Komodo dragons before and it looked like one as well so idk
