TEFLON kills another bird

I'm still in the process of replacing all of my cooking products with Teflon coating. Luckily, my pots and pans were already stainless steel because we bought those originally when we had our Greys.

It's so sad to hear when a pet dies from something like that :(

I just don't understand why someone who'd been warned of the dangers of Teflon would just ignore the warnings. I suppose it's hard for many people to appreciate just how much more sensitive to pollutants a bird's respiratory system is than a mammal's, until they see it for themselves.

I just went to Bed Bath and Beyond and changed everything out

During the time I didn't have birds, I had bought some non-stick (not necessarily Teflon coated, but still, non-stick) bakeware. I'm slowly but surely replacing everything with either glass or Aluminum. The Aluminum baking sheets are AMAZING, just like I used to use when I worked in professional kitchens. I have the Emeril set of pots and pans from 8 years ago, but they're starting to wear out and separate from the copper between, so I'll be replacing those with more stainless steel, cast iron and ceramic as we go along.

Some people might think if they open a window and cook quickly their bird will be fine :( I can't wait until I'm able to move out , my brothers girlfriend insist on using the Teflon pans because she's to lazy to use a normal pan that it might stick to, it drives me crazy. We also have a self cleaning oven which isn't good for parrots. I'm the only one in my house who takes these dangers seriously so I have to keep Rosie locked up in my room upstairs with the window open unless no one is home or take her out places :(

that is so sad. it is even worse that the owner heard warning but just ignored them. it is good i heard that warning before i got my bird(still havent got him/her). i am currently informing my mom that she needs to replace almost ALL of her cookware and she isnt very happy lol. they are pretty old anyways. and for something that is supposed to be non stick, they stick more than you would think. so over time before i get my bird mine will all be replaced thank god:) anyone know the best replacment. im looking for:

doesnt stick a lot
not heavy
somewhat cheap to buy
bird safe of course....

sorry to tun the thread onto me but....didnt think i should start a whole new thread on this. sorry!

Nothing is going to "not stick a lot" without some sort of non-stick coating, be it Teflon or a product similar. Your mom is going to have to grease the surface using a spray (non-aerosol!), butter or something along those lines. Wax paper is also great to use as a liner so that you don't have to use a spray. I highly recommend products by these guys: Bakeware - Nordic Ware I now own several of their aluminum (Naturals) items and I love them. I also use Pyrex glassware for baking others things, like cakes and casseroles. Both are quite affordable, as the muffin/cupcake pan I just bought of there's was only $12. Their website helps you find a retailer closest to you, or you can probably find them on Amazon. They aren't heavy either.

thanks! i know nothing wont stick unless it is coated. but i read(trying to google birdafe pans) that some cast iron ones stick EVERY time on EVERY thing. i dont mind buttering a pan though:). thanks for a specific brand but i just kinda wanted to get a general idea. so what your saying is either aluminum(non coated...) or glass? thanks again!

If a cast iron pan or skillet is seasoned for meat, meat won't stick badly, but if you fry eggs in the same pan, it's a real stickler. It's better to keep separate cast iron for eggs and for meat.

This. And yes, Aluminum is a suggestion, but it's not the only thing out there. Same with glass.

We switched over to stainless steel and cast iron long time ago. I can't believe those people took that sort of risk. It's very sad.....

I'd have a window fan exhausting IN to the room, to keep blowing fresh air in, just to be safe.

Also, I'd probably make the teflon cookware mysteriously disappear. 0:)

We switched over and bought a few pieces ofstainless steel pots and pans at a time.some of my family thinks i'm full off it.oh well
