Tatttoos?

I have two. My dogs paw print on my right calf and a dragon I designed on my hip. Both very sentimental. I have ears pierced, three on each. I'm considering getting my tongue done but it looks to painful to me. More tattoos on the way too.

i really wanted to get one. but im poor, and my boyfriend hates them and i don't want to ruin any 'moments' by him being distracted by disappointment in me whenever he should see it :(

I have 3, My pony's name, which I have had since I was 17 and love the most, a Celtic knot clover for luck which I got for my ex husband, turns out I still like the tat but wish I hadnt gotten because of him, and a design that my brother and I have that represents our family name. I am planning more, I want a back piece with my birds and dogs, not necessarily pictures but representative. I'm still working on it for some time. Had my navel done twice before I gave up on it plus multiples in each ear.

I was a "late" bloomer, lol. Got my first tat when I was 41 and my second one when I was.....41

The first one is a Tree Peony. Tree Peonies got me into another one of my "obsessions" = gardening.

I think the second one is self-explanatory. ;)

Oh , i didn't know you were such a bad girl, LOL

I have one small tattoo- a neuron on my right ankle. I'm a student working on my Ph.D. in neuroscience, so I figured it was fitting to get a nerdy sciencey tat. LOL. I drew and colored the design, so I really feel like it's personal. I like unusual, unique tattoos, especially those with personal meaning. I don't know if I'll ever get another one...this one hurt like heck!

Great pictures everybody! I am partial to hummingbirds too. I have a hummingbird with a flower and a band around my left ankle. Will have to post pictures of mine someday. I have them on my fb and phone but I am too dumb to figure out how to put them on here!

I'll add pics of all mine tomorrow. But I have one on the back on my neck and chichi tries to bite it off. He must think its dirt and I need to be preened!

I used to work at an old peoples home.... I can only imagine what the future generations are going to look at....

The tattoos might look good today....

I have 4. I want more BADLY.....but with all the pets it's not easy to save for such a thing! LOL

Here's a picture of my favorite one:

I'm a 6 yr (almost) breast cancer survivor. Was diagnosed just after my 29th birthday...had a recurrence 3 yrs almost to the exact day later...October will mark another 3 years. So hopefully this goes a little better. My grandma had a breast cancer ribbon tattooed on her left boob (oldest person the tattooist had ever tattooed) and shortly after she got her tattoo in honor of me she was diagnosed with colon cancer. So I added a blue ribbon around my chemo fairy's ankle in honor of my grandma. I love this tattoo soooo much. She reminds me of how tough I really am, especially when I don't feel so tough. An artist friend of my hubby's designed this tattoo for me.

I love tattoos that mean something. A friend of mine was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer. Now it has spread everywhere. Back in January I asked her what could I get tattooed to honor her. She told me she loved 4 leaf clovers. So I got a celtic 4 leaf clover under by left arm. As far as getting old and put in a nursing home, who cares what your tattoos look like then. I'm a nurse and if I see tattoos on an older person I don't think anything of it. Most older people with tats these days got them during wars and if they want to get tattoos about their time of service so be it. I think people are so used to tattoos now a days by the time the younger generation is ready for the nursing home it will be odd to see someone without them!

i am also a tattoo lover. I have nine as of right now. I used to work in a very male dominated field and for them to see any tattoos or anything they deemed unacceptable they would have fired me. I would also have had problems finding another job. In August of 1991 I was diagnosed with a very traumatic disease. They gave me 2 years at the most to live and the time I had left wasn't going to be a party, it would be very tough and painful. I was blind sighted by my diagnosis because I was 4 months pregnant and it was found in a standard array of tests that are typically run. That day changed my life and made me evaluate what was important. I was put on disability right away and deemed disabled so the first thing I did was get a tattoo! I didn't care anymore of what others thought of me and a few of them got some interesting words from me (sailor mouth). I stood in the tattoo parlor for hours because it wasn't like I had anything else to do but be pregnant and eat and stress about the future of my child. I was drawn to an egyptian symbol called an "ankh". Didn't know a thing about it and I thought it was just a "pretty cross thingy". I had it placed on my right shoulder blade in red.

I am still alive and healthier than ever and my daughter who should have been an orphan will be 21 in December :D I later learned that this is the symbol for eternal life. Believe what you want, we all have our own opinions, but for me this symbol watches my every move, always has my back and has kept me on this planet longer than anyone thought I would.

I totally understand. When my Dad passed I got the family coat of arms on my shoulder and when my Mom passed I got a cross with a butterfly which means born again. It doesn't matter what other people think. As long as your happy. That's great to hear your story how you overcome your illness and your daughter is fine. Where I work I get fussed at for having them, but you can't see them. My scrubs cover them up. I just hate to hear people say "What about when you get old". Again I say who cares. Most tattoos mean something to the individual and I think that is awesome. I love to hear peoples stories behind their tattoos!

Next time someone asks you "What about how they will look when you get old?" Tell them thank you for believing that you will live a long life and that in the future you will be more than happy to show them how they look.

Love all your stories about why you got tattooed......

I too was a late bloomer LoL
Had my 3 done when I turned 40 and older
One on my lower back "Bad Girls" even though I am good girl LoL
A dolphin near my groin (pact when friends bought a holiday house)
AND a Duracell Battery on my butt.... my nickname because I am hyperactive and can't sit still for one sec (so in other words I am always FULLY CHARGED) hehe

Unfortunately Mishka is the only one here, and he is unable to take pic's :(

Antoinette, how about the Energizer Bunny? LOL. Just an idea after reading about the Duracell ;)

I never got one.

Almost did on R&R during Viet Nam.

It's cool to read the stories behind the ones explained here. Awesome stories and sentiment.

Myself, I always remembered the line from a Jimmy Buffet song and thought it might happen to me. (Absolutely no reference toward anyone here or anyone with Tattoo's!)

From the Jimmy Buffet song "A tattoo is a permanent reminder of a temporary feeling".
