Tapatalk

I just wanted to pop into this thread and say thank you for making me aware of Tapatalk. I'm usually on my phone, as it's kind of physically exhausting to be up on my laptop.
I've been trying to manipulate the full version of this site on my poor phone, and it is torture.

This is a game changer.

This sounds like a 'phishing' email to me,
Yes, but NOBODY has this email address and it's not published anywhere for anybody to use it for phishing. Also, how would any phisher associate it with a forum of which I'm actually a member? You'd expect them to refer to facebook or something that they'd expect everybody to be "on".

If you've ever used that email for anything (even sending emails) then "someone" has that email, most likely several someones.

Tapatalk isn't specific to this forum. I'm on several forums and they all use tapatalk.

Tapatalk isn't specific to this forum..
Yes, I know that. The email says "Hey strudel! Catch up on what you may have missed on Parrotforums.com" and then lists a whole heap of what appear to be forum posts. It says it's from "ParrotForums.com (via tapatalk) <[email protected]>" It also doesn't have the huge list of email addresses that the "scattergun" phishing emails have.

I've never used Tapatalk on ANY forum. How any other forum could send this email escapes me.....

I got this today through 2 different email addresses. I just deleted them

That's a very good question

Now I feel like I'm to blame here!
I'm on Tapatalk and I haven't got an email from them... Weird

No, sorry, I just found your thread when I searched to see if it had been raised already, seemed like a place to raise it because of the thread title. Didn't mean to make you feel bad, obviously it's nothing to do with you, just on the same topic.

I know :)

I find it weird how I've never gotten an email from them though

I'm glad to see this information, thanks Shirre. Once in awhile I'm out of the house and think of a question I have that I'd rather check here for than the general net. It's come up a couple of times while I'm out shopping and see something I don't know for sure is safe or good to buy for my birds. Still learning everything at this point and this site always helps me figure out what I'm doing.

Strudel (Apple), I wanted to give you an update on this issue.

I heard back from one of our Administrators, and the forum uses Tapatalk to send emails. The forum NEVER gives out email addresses, and Taptalk does NOT have your information.

I hope this puts your mind at ease. :)

I'm sorry, but that isn't the case. The email did not come from this site, but from Tapatalk. Unfortunately, if the administrators don't really understand the software or the forum's security, then the only way to ensure security is not to visit the forum.

Hi Strudel,

Admin has assured us that your info was NEVER shared with TT-- the way admin explained it to us is that the emails do in fact come directly from the forum but they have TT links in them- so although the emails appear to come from TT, they are simply advertising a way to "catch up" on trending threads via TT if you choose to sign up....but the email is still sent directly from the forum.

I don't want to get a in a huge fight about it, but no, it isn't. That's what Tapatalk may have represented to get access, but it doesn't address the security issue.

The forum has given a third party access to its database. It is worse that giving the information away - it's the equivalent of handing out keys to your house and saying "nothing's been stolen, everything is there just as before". The point is that when somebody's got the key to the house, anything/everything can be taken at any time.

For the emails to have come from tapatalk's domain, the email addresses are on that domain. I don't care what they say because I've never elected to have anything to do with them. That decision was made for me by somebody else. Not happy, Jan.... :(

....

I wish YOU would contact Admin yourself, rather than taking this out on the public forum.

No matter what we've tried here, no matter how we've explained it - and we sure have tried - you seem to have made up your mind that the forum did something bad (to you).

Hi, Apple.

Yes, contacting Admin directly would be the best way to get to the answers you are seeking in this instance.

To be sure we are on the same page, however, could you provide a screenshot of exactly what you are seeing in that email?

Strudel's right, the horse is already out of the barn and closing the door after the fact is of little help.....

I received one of those E-mails and just trashed it, but then I don't really believe in the sanctity of the various claims of security of websites given the multitude of security breaches across the internet.....if you want to stay secure and hidden on the internet, you should never have used any information that was traceable to you period as anything can eventually be cross referenced back to you and/or your internet address(es)and with social media virtual uncontrollable, you're really fighting a losing battle.....

If you've ever purchased anything online, joined any online group or organization that is profit based, then that organization/company is sold to or otherwise absorbed by some other entity, what has happened to your information ? ? ?

to get to the answers you are seeking
I am not seeking answers. I have no intention of wasting any more time on this.

Abusing members for legitimate complaints about unauthorised conduct is really not acceptable.

Well, I'm sorry to be late to this party, but it doesn't look like I could have contributed anything that our mods haven't already.

This forum has in fact NOT given any third party access to it's database. Tapatalk is a forum software add-on, functioning as such. They also provide third party services which are completely elective and how you interact with them as far as visiting our forum or any other is your business.

Further, this forum has never asked for, nor is there a space for you to even enter your email password which would be the only way a security risk could present itself. We purposely collect the bare minimum of information from you necessary to open your account.

ParrotForums has always sent out update emails from time to time, and will continue to do so. They are now generated with the use of a Tapatalk add-on, and that is the extent of it.

I'm happy to continue this discussion in the open forum or in private if you like as long as everyone remains respectful of each other.

Cheers,
Aaron
