So, I have two budgies, both female, named Blueberry and Snowball. They should be around 5-7 years old. I love them and they... tolerate me. I've had them for several years and have worked with them on stepping up with the motivation of treats, but they still don't trust me. I need help getting some tips on how to win over their trust. I think I need to spend more time putting my hand in their cage, not chasing them or anything, just letting it rest there so they can get used to it. Are there any other things I can do? I already spend time with them, talking to them, reading aloud, whistling, they just don't like me touching or being close to them.

Oops! Tough to get them to seek you out for companionship. Putting your hand in their cage like you describe is a good idea. Hold a millet spray in you hand and make them eat it out of your hand, from a short distance at first and closer as they get used to your hand. Only give them millet spray from your hand. Eventually they will perch on your hand to get it.

However it works out, thank you for loving them anyway. Budgies deserve our love and protection whether they seem to appreciate it or not.

I may try the millet-spray-in-hand thing with my new finches!
Thank you, both of you.
