Hi all.
I am new to the forum and with a good reason.
Here's the story witch i would like to share with you.
I was moving to my new house and at the place my stuff was at there were two parrots high up in the tree's.
The people who lived there put some fruit on for the parrots but they stayed in the tree.
They wanted to call the police to tell them the birds were in the tree, maybe someone was looking for them and reported the lost.
I told them not to do that. Parrots are popular birds to keep the police mite want to catch them and keep them.
While moving my stuff the birds followed me to my new house only on street away.
One of them crashed into a closet door and stayed in a state of a shock sitting there.
One of our workers saw it and came to get me to ask if it was my bird, and right away i said yes!
I walked over to the bird slowly and picket it up. And he bit my finger of course, but i hold on. With a trail of blood behind me i brought the bird into the house and put it in a laundry basket.
The other bird was gone.
During the day the bird became pretty relaxed, i could feed him or her and decided to build a stick where he, (lets call it a he) could sit on.
And he did, and sat on the kitchen covert, on his home made tree, quietly looking at what i was doing. I am completely against keeping birds behind bars so i had to think of something how to deal with this.
After a few day's i heart the other bird screaming in the air, he was back, obviously looking for his friend.
By gently tickling the bird in my kitchen in the hope he would also scream he amazingly did. Very hard to. And now the friend outside knew that his friend was inside and stayed by my kitchen window up in the tree.
I made another homemade tree for the bird outside so i could feed him.
I knew nothing parrots
It became a daily routine, feed the birds and take the one inside which i called Floris outside in the basket to be with his friend which i called Pony.
As i thought that Floris was out of his shock from the crash as he was chatting to me and eating out of my hand i decided to let him go.
I put his homemade tree out side and let Floris walk from the basket to the tree.
Pony and Floris were reunited and free. I just hoped they would stay i got pretty attached to them.
I still wondered where the birds were coming from. I did not even know what kind of parrot it was (i still had now internet) I asked friends to find out what to feed them, i had been feeding them different kind of fruit and cooked rice which they loved. My intuition was right so far.
I thought they were baby parrots and they were going to grow really big. Searching the internet when i finally got my connection i found out that is was The Mini Macaw.
In the mean time they after i let Floris go i did not see the for a few days. Well as my dream was over they came back and life high up in the amazing tree next to my new home. I made a feeding place for them, they chat to me, look through my window and call me to come outside. They eat out of my hand and are very kind.
Floris is a bit clumsy, i think he crashed again and that's why they stayed away for a few day's.
Pony is the smart one, he fly's from the tree to a stick that i hold in my hand to get a treat.
Floris is getting better.
He was not very good in take off's and landings, so funny to see.
The phone rang. The owner of the birds was found and wanted to talk to me.
End of dream again...i thought but i decided not to let those people to catch them and i had a whole doom scenario in my head..........I told them to come at 5 in the afternoon, at that time the birds would be HOME after their daily island tour.
The owner told me that the birds had escaped and that they were together for over 17 years!!! Whow, i thought they were only baby's. And no wonder they were bad flyers at first, especially Floris. I asked him, how it can be fun to keep a bird in prison for so long, and what if the bird gets to be 70 years old. He agreed, he got the birds from someone else.
The owner offered me the passports of the birds, he was happy to see them alive and amazed by their new home. They choose to be with you he said i can not take them back and lock them up again.
So i officially welcomed Floris and Pony into my life. They are wonderful and fun. Free after 17 years.
I have to educate myself some more and that is why i came to this forum.
