Forever in my heart. Sunny the Corella
Hi everyone! I joined the forum just a few days ago for those of you who donā€™t know Sunnys story please go and check out our introduction thread :)

The heat here the past few days has been horrible itā€™s been around 40 degrees everyday day so Iā€™ve been to worried for Sunny to be in his Aviary for too long. So heā€™s spent quite a bit of time indoors, I also let him play in the apple tree in the garden while I was on the phone to a wildlife rescuer for advice about Sunnys future. He also sat by passionfruit vine while I was planting some succulents which he enjoyed nibbling at.
He is now sitting on my lap attacking my hand on his back  So I hope his had a good stimulating day!
Okay he has now discovered playing on his back and he is obsessed and loving it! Though my hand isnā€™t so much haha!
Iā€™m adding some photos of his aviary and the floor in there, he has things to do and grass/hay seeds to keep him busy. It needs tidying as he puts leaves every where! And another perch or 2
Anywho here is Sunny and his adventures day:white1:

Oh! My! Goodness!

Sunny is absolutely adorable! What a sweetheart! I love his sweet little face in the last photo - isn't he just the sweetest, most innocent-looking little kiddo?

My Rosetta likes to lie on her back like that and do her weight training with a baby rattle shaped like a dumbbell. She also has a plastic baby-ball which she drags round behind her like a security blanket. Her favourite game is to hurl small objects (like large plastic beads) over her head and make me chase after them.

You might like to try offering Sunny a length of knotted rope to play on. I bet he grabs hold of it and eventually learns to swing upside-down on it! Corellas love doing that (ie. hanging upside-down). Word of warning, though: DO NOT let him swing upside-down from your hands or arms. You WILL bleed!

I always keep a big chunk of looped rope in my cages so the birds can climb and swing on it. I use 2.5mm sisal for that and 10mm sisal to make cargo nets for climbing on. I've read somewhere that corellas particularly like to dig, so when I put 'Setta in her new apartment, I'll be giving her a cat-box full of nice clean dirt to dig in. I'll probably bury a few seeds in it for her to 'find' and maybe add some bits of paper or cardboard.

Does Sunny wash stuff in his water dish? Every single thing that ever goes into 'Setta's cage gets washed thoroughly in her water (that includes her good self, twice a day). Unfortunately, she LOVES hurling the green pellets out of her mix into the water. I moved the dish to make it harder, but now she actually carries pellets to the dish and drops them in. This arvo, she took a bath in the green-tinted water before I got to change it. Guess who's currently sporting a lovely coat of pale green feathers?

It's a shame we're so far apart! I'd love for 'Setta and me to meet you and Sunny. I'd also be happy to bird-sit him for you if you needed it. It's so lovely seeing him happy and playing. Thanks for posting the pics! :)

Magnificent array of pics, thanks for sharing!!

What a beautiful and personable bird, proving how amenable cockatoos can be to human companionship. We have an addage when folks seek a new avian; let the bird "choose" you. Not to interfere with your eventual decision regarding Sunny's future, but you have been chosen!

Isnā€™t he just adorable! He is the sweetest little thing(Devil at times!) I have ever had the pleasure of knowing!

I did do ā€˜weight trainingā€™ off my hand while he was doing that and I did think to myself.. this wonā€™t end well lol! I will try today with an object instead of my hand.
Sunny is scared of most toys Iā€™ve tried with him .. I bought him a plastic dog ball that I thought he could throw around, but he mainly just puts all his feathers up and lunges for it.. however he does love playing with my anklet, Bracket it necklace even though I repeatedly tell him off for it! Iā€™m trying to walk along and his is dragging behind me attached to my anklet :45:

I will look out for a long rope, thatā€™s a good idea!
Yes Corella do love to dig! When I have sunny outside on the grass or dirt, he always finds roots to dig up, he gets obsessed with having success. Heā€™s also started doing it on the ā€˜flowersā€™ of the carpet.. but Iā€™m house sitting so had keep telling him off.

Thatā€™s so cute that Rosetta likes so soak all her food and that sheā€™s now green :D
Sunny doesnā€™t do that (yet) all the leaves in his water tub at the bottom of his aviary are from him shedding the plants i hang up for him!

I was thinking the same thing that itā€™s a shame we are so far away from each other, would have been great to meet up!

Iā€™m feeling a lot better today in regards to yesterday as I got myself in quite a state about Sunnys future. Iā€™m just got to relax and take my time and enjoy his company until the right decision will come naturally.
He had his first free fly this morning since his long day missing. He was very excited, flying erratically around the trees and paddock. My heart was anxious the whole time as I started to here cockatoos in the distance, but he stuck close by before landing next to me :white1:

He really has taken to me, I feel quite privileged especially as he is wild born. He is good with my partner too, but tends to bite him harder and do angry sqauks at him quite often  but if I leave the room Sunny will fly to me and abandon him. Sunny will clamber up onto my lap when heā€™s having his nighttime attention and treats, and prune himself on my lap and sometimes fall asleep.
He is so cute and truely remarkable

Everyone needs a job. And, the one on the outs gets the best jobs. It is very important that there are at least near equal relationships. Look at it from the point of developing a family based relationship. It may not be perfect, but everyone must be part of it and excepted. So, the one on the outs gets to provide all the goodies.

Cockatoos definitely have favorites but are less prone to be one-person birds. Perhaps your partner can work with Sunny a bit more to feel more comfortable. This thread is a favorite: http://www.parrotforums.com/general-parrot-information/49144-tips-bonding-building-trust.html

He is happy around my partner, likes to land on his head a pick at his hair. Sunny loses patience with him quicker as I think itā€™s because Jon approaches plays and scratches him wrong.. which as we all know is very important. he loves animals but hasnā€™t got that ā€˜common senseā€™ or very naturally knowing of animal behaviour. Heā€™s learning though :D

Sunny. I love him. Heā€™s so lucky to have found you, regardless of what his future holds.
