Sunny, sun conure ****
I am new to this site and happy to have found it. I just want to post about my two fab suns, Sunny and Polita. They are nesting once more. They have done this several times and even hatched two chicks once. But, alas, they died at five weeks. Merlin and I were devastated! The rest all died in the shell. Don't really know why. Polita laid the first of this clutch on 3-3. She usually lays four before she is finished. I'll keep you posted.

Welcome to the forum. Your suns are beautiful. Sorry to hear about your problems raising chicks. Dead in shell chicks can be caused by many things from bad incubation, humidity, disease or even inbreeding. But losing five week old chicks is probably due to some sort of disease the parents carry without showing symptoms. I would reccomend that you have them checked by a vet and have them both cultured.
Good luck with them.

"Did someone say that there are more Sun Conures around ... I have to check this out!"

Hamlet would like to welcome you to the Forum ... her scream is much worse than her bite, promise.

So many things can go wrong with babies, and it's a shame when we loose them, but really it's tough and should be left to experience breeders OR people who feel confident enough in their abilities to do this ... it's not for the weak of heart.

Welcome to the forum, hope to hear lots of good news about the new eggs!

Looks like Polita is going to stop at three this time. I know at least one of the eggs is fertile. Now we just to have to wait until the 24th to see if anything hatches.

I would seriously discourage this by not putting any nest materials in their cage.

Baby birds are not easy to take care of and MANY MANY DIE from inexperienced people, not to mention the fact that the rescues are over loaded with unwanted birds.

Just when we were about to give up hope, I heard an unfamiliar noise in the nesting box. There was a little bruiser in there making himself heard. We finally got a look at him and he is a beauty. We'll be posting pix as soon as we can get a photo op. Two more eggs, so we'll wait and see if anything happens.

I hope that all goes well in the rearing process ... wouldn't want anything bad to happen to how ever many little ones you end up with ...

Still just have one chick. Maybe that is all that will hatch. We've left the other two eggs in the nest just to see what might happen. You never know. The chick and parents are doing fine. Photos soon.

Here are some pix of Bruiser at four days. What a little darling! I don't think his would-be siblings are going to make it, but we'll leave the eggs for a few more days anyway. Also is a pic of the proud and protective parents.

Bruiser has a sibling!

Just as we were once again beginning to give up, Merlin found another hatchling in the nest. Bruiser has a sibling. He looks like a little peanut next to Bruiser. We'll get pix up as soon as we can. I guess we'll have to change Bruiser's name. I was thinking about Jack and Bobby. Any other suggestions of names of famous brothers? Or sisters? There is one more egg, so maybe we'll wait and see what happens there.;)

Yeah, that's great news ... hopefully in the next few days you will be looking for names of famous triplets ...

Yeah, maybe Larry, Moe and Curly or Laverne, Patty and Maxene! Whoa, I'm getting too far out there. Somebody reel me in. Little Bobby made his first day good so far. He and Jack are raising hell at feeding time. Here are today's pix.:p

Jack and Bobby

Not to worry. Merlin is the camera wizard. We'll have lots of pix at all stages. It may be my overactive imagination, but I think the third egg is moving around a bit. Maybe little Teddy will be with us after all.

Jack and Bobby

Jack and Bobby are now two weeks and one week old respectively. They are both growing like weeds and Jack's pin feathers are coming in. Also his eyes are opening a bit. They are little slits right now. We took out the last egg this AM. I opened it and it contained a well-formed, almost mature chick. It may have hatched eventually, but it had been so long that we thought probably not. Two chicks are plenty anyway. The family is doing fine.

Re: Jack and Bobby

Latest pix. Jack has his eyes open and his pin feathers are coming in nicely. Little Bobby isn't far behind. The Conure family are all doing well!
