I was just wondering if this was a sun or jenday conure because I'm looking to buy a sun, but this looks more like a Jenday. Any opinions.

Jenday....

Jendays have green backs, suns have yellow backs.

:gcc:

That bird looks like a baby. How old is it?

The reason I ask is because Jenday and Sun conures look the same as juveniles. Sun conures will gradually lose most of the green plumage as they mature, and will have the typical Sun look by the time they are 1-1.5 years old. I'm not sure there is a way to visually tell them apart until the color change occurs.

If you click with the bird I would take it, regardless of which one it is. Suns and Jendays are identical in all aspects except for the coloring.

another way to know is seeing the parents. If both are suns then odds are that one may be a sun. (could also be an attack helicopter in disguise, can never be too sure)

Like Laurie said if you enjoy each other then go for it regardless, I still don't know the difference between the 2 outside of colouring (thought jendays were a mutation of sun until I was told otherwise)

My observation was in general I admit,I admit the green and yellow back could be thrown off due to age, or lack thereof.....

I'm still pretty sure Jenday but yeah either way it's a great bird!

haha I'd be willing to bet attack helicopter myself.. lol

Well it is a conure.....so in effect it IS an attack helicopter....you just need to make sure he uses the small rockets when he plays.

Do you know how old this conure is? Baby suns and jendays look very similar and both will have very green wings. If this is an older bird (1 year or older) then it is a Jenday. Sun Conures lose mostly all the green on their wings, which turn to mostly yellow. Jendays will keep all the green on their wings and have deep red/orange chests.

It's a baby, and I would guess Jenday but they look very similar. But its tail feathers look trimmed and its wings are severely clipped. I would avoid this breeder.

naw looks about right to me they sick out past the body feathers...look at the second picture.

Thank you all for your responses. The breeder told me it was a 5 month old sun. But, I would figure that a 5 month old sun would begin to have some yellow on the wings.

The breeder sent me a pic of the conure when it was 1 month old. The second pic is when it was 5 months old.

just noticed the clipped tail

Also that picture on the subway with no water available in a box that is clearly too small for it to stand up in when closed

AVOID!
