I've learned so much from my rescued goffins, man are cockatoos different from other birds. He's a drama queen, a cling on cuddle baby, a tantrum thrower extraordinaire And very messy and loud as well-but that can be fixed with time and effort. He's pretty neurotic, I guess that comes from being moved to three new homes/sets of people in less than a year's time. I'm glad he didn't resist the dietary changes, he transitioned off walmart seed diet onto fresh foods so easily and happily it shocked me. He wolfs down his chop every day and won't touch seeds. He'll eat a few pellets a day, but fresh food is mainly his thing and he makes that clear by throwing the mix of pellet brands offered on the ground all the time. Today he had a piece of kale stuck under his beak and I wanted to grab it off so bad but we're not quite there yet. He's just starting to get cuddly but we're not quite to the point where I can grab his beak. He screams his lungs out if I leave the room though. Yikes. I keep wondering when someone is going to come to the door to see if someone is being murdered in here. This is a really small town so it's only a matter of time. I understand why he was rehomed, anyone in a smaller house literally couldn't get away from the noise the way we can. He screams incessantly full blast for about ten minutes straight when we go upstairs to bed or any time we leave his sight. If I leave the house I can hear his screams inside the car in the driveway.
Negatives aside, he's so sweet and cuddly-I can tell he'll be the biggest lover in the house as soon as he settles in. Because we do have the option to leave the range of his screaming, we'll handle it fine. He's in a forever home now and I'll love him forever if he loves me like I think he will. He's already starting to, I can see it. It's so nice to have a cuddly bird that responds to my love and attention. Our macaw only loves the guys in the house so there's no cuddling with her. The guys get cuddles and coos and the ladies of the house get lunged at as a rule. Every once in awhile we get a good day where we can have her on an arm for a few minutes but we really can't pet her. Hubbs and I took her shopping the other day and my hand was in range because I was pushing the cart, and she reached over and pinched skin off my hand and drew blood. And this was when she was "happy" out shopping which she enjoys haha. From now on I think I'll let my husband push the cart.
Look at her here, doesn't she look so sweet and innocent? This was sometime before she slowly made her way to the back of the cart and nailed me. Did I mention we were there on my suggestion buying garden herbs to plant for her eating pleasure? Karma, bird, it will come back around lol :54:
