steamer..

The tub I'm talking about is the bathtub. The steamer works by you fill the chamber with distilled water, and plug it in. It heats the water into steam when you pull the button. :)

Oooh that's what I thought :p. So you have hot water in the tub and you put the grate in, and then you wipe it?

They clean the poop great! I take the grate out and set it in the tub to steam so all the poop the falls off can be rinsed down the drain. Then I use the cloth part to go over the rest of the cage and perches, the poop just wipes off.

Oh that's so cool! How exactly does a steamer work?? Is the tub you're talking about a bath tub or is it part of the steamer? I'm so confused now lol :D!

Suncon, so sorry I jacked your thread .

You didn't;) The information people were giving due to your replies were useful to me too!

Oh good :) I felt bad, I asked a completely different question and I wasn't sure if you were even interested in getting a new steamer lol! But I'm glad it was helpful :).

It was helpful. I don't think I'm going to get a new steamer right now because the steamer I bought(steam buddy) was on sale for $10 and I just picked it up because I thought it would be useful sometimes. Now I'm glad that I can use it to disinfect the bird cage! Just to try it I took 2 wooden toys and a perch and disinfected it. I'm happy because I was always doing a long crappy way to disnfect things but now it takes about 20 seconds.

That's awesome!!!! Sounds like I really need to pick up a steamer soon.. I have a rope perches in both of my cages and I hate cleaning them because they take forever to dry! Wow why have I not gotten a steamer sooner :p!

There's no water in the tub. The water goes in the steamer itself. I just take my grate into the bathtub, because then instead of wiping off the poo the steam is loosening/cleaning, it just falls into the bathtub, and I can rinse it down the drain. I use the scrub attachment to the grate. The rest of the cage doesn't have as much poo, so I just use the cloth attachment and it wipes off.

Oooooooohhh I get it lol (DUH)! It was late lol :p. That makes a lot more sense. I thought you meant you let it sit in a tub of water .

Now I'm sure it's safe because I just read in the pamphlet that it's telfon free!

The family recently got a steamer for clothes and didnt tell me. They just unboxed it today and nobody is allowed to use it until I'm sure its safe. It's a steam buddy steamer.
Amazon.com: Steam Buddy Handheld Steamer: Electronics

GOOD FOR YOU BUDDY! I thought I was the only person who did this kind of thing. I wish I could shake your hand. No Teflon Pans or toxic sprays or clothes softner etc near my animals either!

I agree. No aerosol sprays or candles left in the house. Nobody believed me about the non stick pans until we stopped at the local pet store and the person told us the tragic story about their cockatiels. We bought stainless steel and now the house is all bird safe. I'm very cautious with anything new in the house and I consult people here first. When I first joined this forum before I got my african grey I didn't believe many people about how many of these things are harmful to birds but I'm glad I took their advice because Pearl has brought much joy to the house. She is like a little person and is definitely part of the family.
