I am looking all over the web for a hand-feeding spoon/syringe combo. I have seen pictures of them but can't find one for sale. Has anyone bought them?

IMO that defeats the purpose of using a spoon to help with weaning. I like for them to see where the food is coming from and distract them from my finger/hand.

Mikey, that is the one I bought :) Henpecked, I guess I wasnt thinking of it as a "weaning" tool, but as a feeding tool. We had no problems weaning the budgies we just raised, but I will confess that was my first and only experience with handfeeding so far. All my research has pointed to feeding with spoon or syringe, not switching during weaning, but I would LOVE to hear more of what you are talking about.

Like most folks i start with the syringe . When they get to be fully feathered and i want to intro different foods , like banana, i start mixing banana with formula and feed them with a small spoon straight from the bowl. They of course see where the food is coming from and when they have the desire to feed themselves they can explore eating from the bowl them selves. This usually happens when you can't feed them fast enough, LOL. I find it's much easier to mix "whole" foods with formula and spoon feed instead of trying to get whole foods though a syringe. You can use baby foods mixed with formula and use the syringe but i like to use fresh fruit/veggies that have some "substance" as they get older. The sooner you can start feeding them fresh foods mixed with their formula the better/sooner they will learn to eat fresh foods instead of just pellet/seeds. Just the way we do it around our house. BTW you might also find the older babies will help you feed the younger babies, i can usually use all the help i can get.
