something is seriously wrong with Safari!!

I certainly hope and pray safari will be able to pass the metals easily. I am sending up prayers for both of you, I can't imagine how stressful this is on you. Please keep us posted.

Oh Beth,

I am so sorry about what Safari. What you are going though right now cannot be easy. You know all your birds so well I believe you caught this in time and now that he is getting the help and treatment he will probably be able to get though this. Safari has a special place in my heart because of him he helped us become friends. I will pray that he gets though this without any ill effects.

I am tearing up right now and can't really see the screen. My heart with with you Beth. I will be thinking of you and Safari and sending him healing and you peace.

thanks Rebecca, I was going to pm you with this, but I know you have your hands full right now, and only wanted to update you with good news, you don't need more bad news...

I really appreciate that you wanted to keep the good with me but you are my friend and when you are hurting I am hurting too. We can hurt together and get though all this crappy stuff together.

Now that Safari is in good hands remember to take care of YOU. You are a very special person and will get though this difficult time. I am with you on this all the way my friend.

OMG, I just got to read this as I've been busy running at work...it was busy....I'm so sorry to hear about Safari!!!!! I hope he's ok..... :(

Thanks for making the x-rays visible Wendy. I am in awe of how clear and beautiful they are (except for that pesky metal low in the digestive track)

Safari is in such good condition. Nice and full, organs size and placement so nice and healthy. His x-rays almost have me jealous with showing such good condition of that little parrot. I hope Julio's x-rays show this good. Dr. Blair wants Julio to be x-rayed to view organ size, placement and condition. I hope they come back looking as good as Safari.

I just wanted to take some time to let you know that because of the experience I have viewing parrot x-rays your Safari's look really good. They show me the excellent care you have given this parrot and you need to know that right now.

After Safari is out of the woods and is doing much better I will share with you what I have learned about parrot toys over the years. I promise we can have some fun with this. But later. After Safari gets better and back home.

I'm sorry to read about Safari :( I hope he's ok!!!

Oh Beth! I'm *so* sorry to read this awful, awful thread! Honestly, it's time the bad stuff dried up and the sun came out. Poor little Safari - sending prayers and healing thoughts to him and huge hugs to you. Stay strong. It won't be long before Safari passes the metal and begins to get well. Till then, just try to remind yourself he's in the very best of hands.

As I read your description of how the vet is treating Safari, it occurred to me that if anything like that happened to any of my guys, there isn't a vet within coo-ee who could possibly do that. Our local 'specialist' avian vet assured me that it's not possible to remove fatty tumours from birds, yet I hear of it happening successfully all the time in the US. I guess what I'm saying is, Safari *is* in good, capable hands and we have to hope for the best.

Love to both of you! XX

OMG!!! That is so scary! Awful that the toys you think are safe are not!! Don't they bird test them??!!!! Makes you paranoid!

First Num-Num, now Safari! I feel for you :(. I'm so so sorry and I hope that Safari pulls through this!

Thanks for sharing the X-rays. You can really see the metal :(

Ohhhh noo...poor safari!!!! I hope he passes the metal pieces soon! Poor baby :( ...sending healing thoughts to your lil feather butt!

I guess I just don't have luck in the 'TOY' department, what are the odds of this happening again??
gosh I choose my toys so carefully, sometimes I'll stand there for 1/2 hours pouring over all of them, analyzing them, wondering if they will hurt themselves in some way....
nope too soft, no plastic, no toys that can crumble and want to be eaten, no straws etc....go can go crazy with toys just trying to find one that is safe....

since this is the second time this has happened, I would have to say toys are NOT safe, but that is based on my own experience.

Sure a toy can be in a cage for months or years even, and nothing happens......then one day, you find out they weren't safe at all.....

I can't wait to find out how Safari is doing tomorrow, and I should have the blood test results back as well.

thanks to all of you and your support, you guys are just the best there is!!

oh this is so sad :( ! this post made me go to both cages and look and see if I have any bells...I do! and am now removing them so I can remove the stems!

I hope Safari is feeling better! Take good care of yourself too!

I have to be honest, I LOVE TOYS!...Even though they have seriously injured two of my beloved birds....I've had two close calls and it makes me cringe, that sometime one could die from an accident involving a toy....I don't think I could ever forgive myself....knowing I've had two close calls already.

I have a huge box full of toys. I've spent oodles of $$$$$ on them over the years, and I love watching my birds get a kick out of them. I love the colours, and can't wait to see them explore them, so they can be happy and entertain them selves....mind you most of the toys are for my breeder birds, not my pets.

But now things are changing my mind, I'm seriously considering removing all toys from all cages, with the exception of swings.

I think about how often do my birds really play with the toys in their cages??(now I am referring to my pets).....not often, they have each other to play and socialize with. they are paired up with each other, with the exception of Halo, my beloved lovebird.

even my breeder birds don't play with the toys a whole lot, except my one pair of lovebirds, Summer will take on any toy any time, lol, so will her mate Smokey

So what to do with all these toys?.....I just might donate them on behalf of Safari :)
