Sam is home from the hospital and doing reasonably well considering what he's going through. He is eating millet mostly (the vet said at this point he can eat the millet all he wants because he's so thin now). He's drinking water which is great and doing better or at least in little baby steps. He is still quite wobbly on his feet and weak. But I hope that he will at least get a little better with some time and love. He is an old cockatiel so I can't expect too much.


My sun conure Sunny is mightly jealous though of all the attention Sam is getting!

Kentstar, Glad to hear Sam is home. I don't have personal experience with cockatiels, but I didn't think 11 was that old. Does the vet think he has a permanent chronic condition that can't be reversed, or does he possibly have an illness caused by an infection or something that can be treated or will go away with time. Best wishes for Sam's recovery.

So sorry Shunt! I've lost a parakeet too a few years ago. She was 7 yrs old and a sweetheart! I was so sad when that happened. I hope we get to see them all someday...

Thanks for all the prayers everyone. Unfortunately, my sweet little Sam passed away this morning. He died in our arms at least, rocking him next to our hearts. He will never be forgotten and I hope he will look for me when I go.
