Smaller vs Bigger?

That's one reason I am looking to get a conure. I expect to be around for another 20-30 years, but maybe not a heck of a lot more.

My preference for larger birds boils down to one thing...generally longer lifespan meaning I have more time to spend with them
That one big reason for me as well. Small birds just don't live as long and you want as much time as possible with them. The fact that a large parrot can share a life with you is special.

Yes, but the problem with that is, people go through life changes and unfortunately those life changes can and will affect your relationship with your pets. The longer your bird lives the more life changes that you will go through. Hopefully none of them will affect your pets. The rescue ceneters are slap full of large parrots because people got them with the same mentality to grow old together, but it never works out that way.

Example: I have had my birds now for a few years. My wife and I are retired and I assumed we had gone through most of our life changes. But nope, my wife is from the Virgin Islands and has mentioned that she would like to go back to St. Thomas and possibly spend the rest of our years there around her family. But we have two birds that will most likely out live us by several years and relocating with them to the islands is not really feasable. So I'm in a quandry right now:(

I would love to own bigger birds but my biggest fear is that if a macaw got mad towards my smaller birds then would the smaller bird live to see another day? If both sizes could co-excist then I would be favor of it.

Any pet that I have ever owned lived out its days with me. I realize that my situation may not be the norm, but it does happen. Some people DO take their responsibilities seriously.
I'm the same way, my pets are my family and I wouldn't do anything that would force me to no longer have them.

I've always been of the opinion that the bigger the pet the more you have to love. I love love love macaws. :)

Simple choice for me: smaller bird, smaller beak. Bigger bird, bigger beak.
