is a small metal slinky a good or bad toy for Sylvarie i have one but have not given it to him yet
the last thing i want is for him to get hurt playing with it so comments and ideas from you will help
i also have a big plastic one i cut for the bunny thinking ill give some of it to him instead?

I would not give that to your bird. I'm not sure what kind of metal it is and that in itself could be harmful/poisonous. I also think that it could be a strangulation hazard. I am not a fan of slinkys for birds, plastic or metal.

I wouldn't give a metal slinky, but my lovebirds have been enjoying plastic ones for years. They bounce on them. I cut the slinky in half and string one piece vertically from the roof of the cage and the other horizontally across the middle. The lovies enjoy dangling down from their swing and pulling the slinky up, then they let go the swing and go boingetty boingboingboing on the slinky as it rebounds. Fun to watch! :D

i am thinking for now ill just hang it off his perch and see what he does he usally takes a few days to warm up to anything new

I agree with Brian here, slinkies (plastic or metal) sound like hazardous items for birds. I tried letting chili play with a plastic one- that lasted for 2 seconds before I saw she could get her feet stuck in it, and I couldn't imagine trying to free an entangled bird from a slinky.

If you *do* give them a slinky PLEASE, please, please watch them carefully. And I'd avoid metal ones at all costs- you don't want to deal with a trip to the vet for metal toxicity

any metal toys, with unknown compounds are extremely hazardous and dangerous.
conures have metal cutters for beaks, they are incredibly strong.

yes it would be very entertaining to watch them play but I would not recommend it at all.

Shirre, I wouldn't give a slinky to a Galah because it would be too heavy and could indeed tangle the loops around a foot or wing. I'm not sure how big a Jenday Conure is, but the Lovies are fine because they're not heavy or strong enough to bend the plastic out of shape. They just bounce and it rebounds without twisting. Also, they chase each other along the tunnel formed by the slinky and *that's* hilarious! I'd say only give slinky toys to birdies small enough to fit through the tunnel with lots of room to spare. So that would be Budgies, Lovebirds etc.

Jasmines favourite foot toy is a metal bell that fell off one of her bird toys. She holds it and shakes with her foot to make it clang. She also sticks her head in it and talks to hear the echo! Keeps her busy for hours.

Fargo has a slinky, well did, but he has destroyed it into 5 parts now ;) haha

But it was just hard plastic !

Like everyone else said, i would definitely not give a metal slinky, but plastic sure, just be safe and always watch when they play with it :)
