Should I?

*phew!!*. I am SOO happy you went and got him- the beginning of this post was giving me some serious anxiety- tiny cage, kids banging on his cage, people not being nice... Yikes!!! No wonder he wanted a new family!! Poor guy... Glad you opted to be his savior 😊 I like daquiri.. Or martini... Something with a calming effect rather than riling you up with that OTHER name lol

Fingers crossed here...

I have a gentleman willing to donate a decent sized playtop cage (housed a U2) that looks to be in decent shape for $40. I was prepared to buy him a new cage but they didn't have anything suitable in stock so I checked the classifieds. He's supposed to text me back at 8:30 t come get it.

Right now he's in my travel carrier. I really don't want to keep him in there all night if it's not necessary and there's no way I'm putting him back in that tiny cage he came to me in. My travel carrier is bigger!

He's eating, dancing when you talk to him (I'm assuming he's quite nervous) and talking. He and Blue are screaming to each other through the house. Awesome. I so signed up for this. Where the heck is my freaking ipod again?

I guess your an official member of the zon club how,LOL. Thanks for looking out for an older zon in need of a 2nd,3rd chance.Keep an eye out, Merlee might show up banging on your door.

So glad you took this beautiful boy! I adopted Savannah in April. She is 20. Her name was Sinbad. She loves her new name! :D

Good luck with the him. Keep us posted! ;)

She lucked out because it's not a DYH. lol.

Thanks for helping this guy out! You know, it's amazing how once a rescuer, always a rescuer. When I moved from up north to Florida, I promised my wife no new birds. I brought five with me, after re-homing seven before we moved. And within 3 weeks, I had people calling me up! I've taken in several more. Some temporarily, some forever. I also do long term boarding (I held a 'zon for a friend in prison, a conure for a woman deployed in Afghanistan, and a Hahn's for a guy working in Alaska). I cannot get away from birds! Not that I try, ;), much to my wife's dismay. She loves the birds, but, isn't thrilled living "in a pet shop". I keep telling her these birds are not for sale! This is not a pet shop. lol

Im totally reading this with a smirk on my face :) I got my 30plus Bluefrnt [They also were calling him a Double yellow head too] in November. He came and developed a huge crush on my Macaw . He sings opera ,and "Im a Good Boy" at the top of his lungs. My Macaw even trys to chime in [macaws are not as harmonic, LOL] .I get the whole name thing ,Im sure you can figure something out :) Have Fun

Oh you big softie you!!

*sigh*
I was hoping you guys wouldn't figure that out so soon!

I got him another cage. The gentleman that I spoke with earlier gave me a nice sized cage in great condition for $40. It needs cleaned up and some minor repairs. Plus, I need bowls for it.

I'm exhausted. Like seriously exhausted.
How cruel would it be to let him sleep in the travel cage until morning?

Leaving him in the travel cage might be a good thing, he is used to smaller and he's been through enough for one day. (lifetime)

He looks like an Ezekiel to me! So glad you saved him from those people. I am so sick of people mistreating amazons then blaming the bird for being a bird. At least in my area, there's been a massive increase in Blue-Fronted Amazons being passed around and ending up in shelters and rescues. And every single one its "this bird is terrible and mean!" Ugh...

It's so great to hear about people loving animals instead of mistreating them! All I can say is - thank you for your big heart!
By the way- I love the name Daiquiri!

He could be a hybrid, still... but ya, definitely blue front!

I see he's got a ruptured air sac in the cheek. In the below link shows Trinity (at the bottom) with the same issue. (there is a technical term for it, but can't recall it)

I was going to suggest swapping Zachary for Zachary... you think your daughter would notice?

He's just barely waking up. I don't think he slept very much last night. Of course, I can't say I blame him. I wouldn't want to sleep here either. After I drop the kids off from school I'm going to work on his cage. It really needs cleaned up. It has been outside all summer. It's not my first preference for him but it's at least spacious enough that he can spread out. I feel guilty for making him hang out in a travel cage all night, but by the time I got home with the bigger one, it was pushing 11pm and I was pushing the boundaries of sanity (aren't I always?)

He's pacing back and forth the travel cage now. He hasn't stopped since I brought him home. I think he has ADHD.

And he definitely knows his name
*sigh*
I was afraid of that. Just a bit ago I heard him say "Hi Zachary!"
My response: "We don't talk like that!"

Oh god. That website just broke my heart!

His cheek doesn't really look bad or too puffy when I look at it. I'm wondering if it was just the angle of the camera? He's seeing the vet this afternoon, so I'll have him check it out for sure, as well as everything else.

As far as the idea of swapping them, yes... it would be a dramatic improvement in her life. Unfortunately, for some reason I just can't comprehend, my daughter appears to have a soft spot for dumb animals. She'd notice. This parrot can articulate a full sentence. Dead giveaway. The Amazon is better looking too.

I did offer to take her Zachary hunting once. Generally, I don't hunt anything that's not in a mall, but in this case, I'd make an exception. He wants to learn how to shoot a rifle, at which, I'm pretty good at. She said she wasn't comfortable with me teaching him. Hey... I tried.

The rescue person, Anna, is an amazing person! :)

I haven't heard of any major issues with ruptured air sacs, and have seen a local zon with one... so I'd think that generally speaking, it's not an issue.

It was worth a shot at the switcharoo! ;)

You could take the King of the Hill approach. Where Cotton named his second son Hank even though he already had a son named Hank, so he called the new one Good Hank and the old one Bad Hank.

So call the 'zon Good Zach, and the other one Bad Zach.
