Hi Friends,

I am confused so I need your thoughts on this..

I have 1 English budgie and I am thinking to buy a cockatiel ( I just adore them too). I was on holidays until recently but now I have to give time to my studies and would have to attend coaching, like for 5 to 6 hours.

Would it be right for me to bring a cockatiel now and would he adjust with my English budgie. Will cockatiel be too noisy for me because i'll have to study at home as well? Ill be able to give them about 2-3 hours daily once my coaching is started. would he be manageable for me along with my budgie. I am planning to house them together after a month once they get to know each other.

Thanks,
Nish:yellow1:

Hi i have two cockatiels there lovely although they are quite demanding! female tend to be less noisy but males are lots of fun! is your budgie nice and relaxed or not because budgie and sometime fight with cockatiels there not that expensive 2-3 hours would be good since they can keep each other company as long as they have lots of toys and puzzles in there cage they will be fine there awesome pets and great birds.

No one can say if you should or not as it is ultimately up to you... but many owners, myself included, have jobs that require us to be out of the house for 9 or more hours per day.

The cockatiel and budgie may or may not get along, so please don't expect them to! Since you have an English budgie, he would probably get along better with the cockatiel than the Normal/Wildtype/Pet/American budgies would! Budgies are very "in your face" and all over the place where-as cockatiels are more laid back. Although it is possible to house them together, I have noticed that cockatiels often do not like the pesky antics of budgies!

If you really want a cockatiel, you are not allergic to their dust, you can handle the noise (cockatiels, in general, are not noisy birds, but some can be excessively noisy!), care, etc, then go for it! But only you can make this decision!

I totally agree with MonicaMc comment. Cockatiels are great birds to keep. The dander can be controlled by bathing your bird by taking it in the shower with you, which Tango loves, a water mister or putting a dish at the bottom of the cage. Before you make your decision, do some research.
