Shelby playing with metal,....toy's ?

Yes, but are you ever embarrassed when an animal outsmarts you? I do at least joke about the horse, cat, bird, dog being smarter than I am.

Oh yes , I know , I have Border Collies . One girl , Sally , knows that she can watch video on the computer and of course she watches the TV.
She has strong herding lines , so anything that moves , like animals on animal planet , she attacks the screen or if its a video on the computer , she sits on my lap and stares at the screen ! lolol.
These dogs know things dogs shouldn't know , thats the only way I can explain them , lolol.:p

I know, we have a Sheltie (2nd one) and has extreme herding skills. Our terrier chases our boxer following every step, as a he should, like going for a rat. He gets tired, but the Sheltie watches where the boxer will come around, then heads him off. I also would take in unwanted hunting breeds and train them to hunt, then find a good home for them. It's AMAZING to watch work like they were meant to do. Our terrier loves to come out to my racing shop and looks for mice & rats.

roxy- ya, us stupid humans !!!

stephend- I really like the new,...locks on the Kings Cages. So far there only on two models. I would like to see if a Too or a Grey could unlock it.

Jenlynn- Cool, I'll check them out. Like you said, they should last a long time !

My bully stick is hurting ! (sorry, had to) lol !!!

Oh my , what did you do with your bully stick that it hurts ?! lolol

My Too loved keys strung with leather laces. Also loved cotton mops, and real bristle whisk brooms, crazy but he loved to shred and preen the broom and the mop. The keys he like the texture and the sound they made when he dropped them against the cage.

JUST THINKING ABOUT IT !!! lol !!! :p :D

Oh no ! LMAO

Yes, Border Collies and Dalmatians are just too smart. They can figure out how to work the child safety locks on cupboards, climb like anything including trees! My Dal even once got my coffee filters, that were on the top shelf of a cupboard. He must have jumped up onto the counter, opened that cupboard (yes he learned how to undo all the child locks), and took the whole package and ate them!) He could also open the bathroom door to eat the toilet paper.

I'm so proud of Shelby !

On Saturday we did her first trick. I had her on my fingers and told her "upside down", then I flipped her. She didn't know what to think the first few times, but she trusted me. Now, we do the same then I say, "swing", and I rock her back and forth upside down. She loves it !

Today, we played on the living room carpet. I got one of the small cat balls that looks like a woofer-ball" and also has a bell inside. I rolled it to her, bounced it, etc, and nothing, so I started biting and shacking in with my teeth, then gave it to her, and now she's playing with it !

I really don't think she was taught how to play,.. with her first home, as she has no idea what to do with the typical bird toys,.....not any !

But now,... she has parents that love her and,.... are teaching her how to be,... ...a TOO !

AWESOME ! That is a cool trick. There has to be alot of trust there for Shelby to lt you turn her upside down , lolol. I want to do that with Yoshi , but i dont think he's ready for that yet :)

My amazon likes me to hang him upside down as well and swing him, lol! I think Merlin would have a heart attack though if I did that to her.

Yes, I just had an issue with Pete being scared of one of his toys because I replaced the wood pieces he chewed. I just took it out and rubbed it on my face and hugged it and told him how nice it was. Then when I put it back he wasn't afraid of it anymore.

While we're watching TV at night, I lightly rub her side's and working down to her belly, so I can eventually,....pick her up from her belly rather than just on my fingers.

That's exactly how I got Yoshi used to me scooping him up into my arms. Keep doing it ,it works. I work my hand under his body and little by little I put my hand closer to his underside , all the while petting his neck , preening him . Eventually he didnt even realize he was sitting in the palm of my hand , lolol. So cute , he was so relaxed he just let his feet dangle :D

It's amzing that when you show them you like it , they lose all fear of it ! I tried that myself and it worked like a charm :)
Unbelievable !

I'm going to have to keep trying that now that it worked this time. He is so scared of new things going into his cage. Yet when he's out and sitting on me he doesn't seem scared of anything I'm doing. I type something and then he goes and stomps on the keyboard like oooo, what fun! Yesterday I put in eye drops while he was sitting on me and then he grabbed the bottle and tried to play with it. So I guess I need to do more with new toys and perches first so he sees it's fun.

I don't recall how long you've had him ?
Did the previous owner say he was so scared ?

Yep, Patty's here and says,....."I have to live with him" ! lol  :D

Pete was in this tiny cockatiel cage with one perch and no toys. I don't know if he ever had a toy in 28 years until I took him. So yes, they scare him.
