I have a awesome cockatoo houseguest that I'm hoping will stay.
3 IRN's
4 pairs of GCC
4 pairs of cockatiels
3 pairs of bourkes and 4 extra males
2 pairs of Linnies
2 pairs of budgies
Everyone please meet Shadow.
Unfortunately right now she is not my bird but I'm really hoping she can stay and permanently join our family.

Shadow is a 25 year old female moluccan cockatoo.

She was willed to my vet last year and our bond was instant. I will go into see Shadow as often as I can. She's learned the sound of my car and calls for me.

Since my vet isn't in the clinic often during the holidays she got to come here and be apart of my family over the holidays. Lol I think Dr. T was thinking I'd want to give her back due to the noise. Guess what she hardly screams with me here.

Since coming home she has found her love for warm misting showers on the sink. Her pink colours have come out so much!

She's also has a huge vocabulary, and will mix words together.
Today's special was "hello, coffees over" when my Mom came in. my friend and I where killing ourselves laughing.
Other words include
Hello
Goodbye
Shadow
Pretty bird
Pretty boy [emoji23]
Bad bird
Good bird
Come here
Shut up (i did not teach her this one)
Please
Silly
Barks
Meows
Howls

Among other things. She whistles, sings songs. Rocks out.

She gives hugs or love when asked. Waves hi or bye.

I have taught her "use your words" instead of screaming. Which she will now.

Tell her to go to bed and she climbs into her cage.

Yells at you to shut up if you get too loud at night when she's covered. Which I find very very funny.

She's a avid book eater. Lol She's currently shredding "how to play chess" and a phone book. She's well read. Lol

99% of the time she's out and about with the family.

Love Shadow bird so much!!

I am so hoping that Shadow is able to stay with you always:)
She is gorgeous!

Shadow is amazingly beautiful and photogenic! Quite a vocabulary for a too!! I've not yet have one willing to speak more than about 5 words!

Hopefully she will become a permanent family member.

Now THAT's what I call a DIVA.
Gorgeous, ladylike, intelligent...
She makes me think of a Golden-age Hollywood movie star... Olivia de Havilland, maybe.

Wow how can you not love her, she is adorable and loves you, you have been chosen!

Everything crossed that you are her forever home as she looks and sounds so happy.

That's it coffee over LOL

It's sounds like you guys are a family that's meant to be. One thing I thought of when I read this was that her ability to adapt and be so caring etc must be a reflection of the treatment she got from her previous family.
It's easy to find posts on forums or watch YouTube videos and see Toos that have been rescued and are from families/owners who mistreated them. In turn, the new family has to gain its trust enough to rehabilitate them before they forget the old behaviors and can be a part of the family.
It's just nice to hear of a Too that probably came from a loving home where it was treated as a family member, socialized & respected for being a creature of beauty and intelligence and in turn she has manners and is loving.
I feel too many people take on animals without regard to how they'll feel when they're taken into a strange place, expected to be seen and not heard and is treated like nothing but a lowly animal. I feel we have a responsibility to work work with them, teach them the things that experienced bird lovers tell us are important for their continuing success in a family and to respect that they are different than us in communicating but that like us - all they want in the end us to be accepted for who & what we are and loved.
I hope it works out for you because it sounds like you love her too much to part with her.
Good luck!
Peg
