I bought a bag today for Rosie, she LOVES nutri-berries and after reading that the senior formula was lower in fat thought it would be better. I read the back of the bag, LOTS of fantastic benefits perfect for Rosie, and other older parrots or parrots with health issues! I'm very happy with this buy. Rosie still isn't sure of them, but they'll grow on her. she threw the first one I offered on the floor. The second one she took apart and ate a little.
a little more info
"Senior Bird Nutri-Berries have real pieces of age-defying fruits. Plums provide dietary fiber and are high in Vitamins A, C, K, potassium, fluoride and beta-carotene. Cranberries are full of antioxidants that strengthen the immune system by flushing out harmful toxins. Dates are iron-rich fruits that contain flavonoid polyphenolic antioxidants known as tannins, which possess anti-infective, anti-inflammatory and anti-hemorrhagic properties. Senior Bird Nutri-Berries have the optimal balance of age-defying ingredients to help give your bird the recipe for a longer, healthier life."
Photo of Rosie's bad foot. Her hip is healed on the edge of the socket(and if the leg stretches to far may pop out quickly, making a unsettling deep pop noise. She doesn't have a reaction to it), the lower leg bone slid down, the knee cap is fused to the side of her leg, and the femur and tibia are not lined up correctly were they meet. The vet always tells me how lucky she is to still have a usable leg that doesn't cause any major pain, only occasional soreness.
She has a callous on her "heal". Parrots weren't meant to walk on a human like foot. She she gets sores, has more muscle mass on the good legs side, and stands off kilter.
- We added milk thistle for its anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic effect, as well as dandelion to support bone health and improve liver function. -Because of Rosie's bad leg the ati-inflammatory is perfect. Because she grew up eating seeds she's at higher risk for arthritis. And anyone who knows Rosie, or galahs knows that improving liver function is excellent.
- We included ginger — a powerful anti- inflammatory herb — to help ease tendonitis, lower cholesterol and blood pressure and to help prevent blood clots.-She has thick blood, makes me worry that she could get blood clots in her heart.
- We also combined the joint- health supplements glucosamine to combat osteoarthritis and chondroitin to ease joint pain and swelling. -Again with swelling, her bad leg is often slightly swollen compared to her good leg. And since the entire leg is messed up I can imagine she may have joint pain.
