Say Hello To Izzy!!!!!!!!
:)

She is 12 weeks old, and in December (Against my moms wishes) I'm bringing her home. She'll become my therapy dog, for my back pain, slight depression problems, anxiety, and my stress reliever.

Nips, Gabby, and Dino are also helping me out with welcoming Izzy into the room by working nicely. They are soon going to become permanent cage buddies. :) I couldn't ask anything more from them.

Thanks, I'm in love with her even though I don't own her yet.

I might have to make another deal with my mom so she'll let me get her (My mom dropped on the plan again, yelled at me and blah!)

But the plan is to make her my Christmas present to myself.

:green1:

Her looks will change a lot as she ages, Schnauzers are like shepherds in that the puppies do not look much like the adult dogs at first! Congratulations, hide the shoes, and be prepared to start training day one, as terriers are notorious for taking advantage of any human weakness! ;)

Cuteness alert! She's lovely, I hope she settles in quickly.

EDIT: I was unaware that you might be unable to provide for the dog. PLEASE don't get her if you don't have the funds for her proper care.

If your mother says no and you live in your mother's house then don't bring her home. Have some respect.

I don't want to start anything, but firstly if your mother says no then you should really respect that.. It is her house..

She is the one who will have to pay for everything if your pup destroys stuff..

Because IT WILL!!!! Not if.. but when..

Cypher my puppy chewed my laptop cord after being here for a few days, even though he has tonnes of toys.. They love to chew..

Secondly, don't want to get into a huge topic about Nips again like the many previous threads.. But you stated she was completely healthy, fully feathered, and not plucking..

But in a picture you just posted she has just the down feathers, nothing else.. So clearly she is not 100% healthy again :/

You couldn't even afford a vet bill for the poor little bird, they have no toys in their cages..

I understand money is tight.. But why pay for another animal, when the animals you have in the first place are not being looked after with lots of toys and stimulation..

Will you be able to afford LOTS of toys for this puppy? :/

I just don't understand why someone who says they have alot of money problems would keep getting more animals.. Then its the animals who suffer :/

If my animals were not looked after and spoilt, i would NOT be going out buying more animals.. Just so i would feel better...

Also, are you going to be able to pay for the 20 dollars of puppy food a fortnight?
My puppy just went through a 30 dollar bag in 2 weeks..

Plus vaccinations are going to cost you 150 dollars+.... Plus flea/worming tablets..

Oh and lastly, if you have such terrible pains and problems why get a veryyyyy hyper active dog? :S

Good luck.

You can expect to spend about $1000 in the first year that you have a new puppy. You couldn't afford a cheap $20 cage for your lovebirds a short time ago. Don't get the puppy.

I agree 110% with everything Tab said.

Since you're still living at home then you need to respect your mother's decision against the dog. It's HER house, not yours. She's your landlord and what she says, goes. Otherwise, if you can't respect her decisions then move out into your own place.

Mrrrf.

I saw the cutest puppy not all that long ago.

Did not get the precious thing... because of money issues.

I can spoil three birds, tons of different sorts of food toys... new cages. But I couldn't afford another animal, especially not a dog.

So as much as I adored that puppy... I didn't bring her home Period.

Do some calculating... figure out if you can afford a dog...

Also what happens if your family dogs don't like her?

What if she gets really sick?

Think carefully... very carefully before you bring her home.

The dog might help you... but will you be able to give her the quality of life SHE needs.

That is the question.

I have to agree with Tabitha and the others on so many levels.

First, speaking as a mother you need to respect your parents home and wishes. Or move out.

Second, if you can barely afford what you are currently taking care of, then adding another animal is just plain foolish and selfish on your part. Not only does it place added stress on you, but also on your animals who feel your stress. Not to mention your parents who shouldn't be responsible for your animals.

Third, therapy dogs are wonderful, but they do no start off that way. I have trained dogs since 1999, even for the deaf and wheelchair bound disabled. It's not easy. I am not saying your schnauzer couldn't do it, but it takes a tremendous amount to time and energy and patience to train therapy dog. I have a schnauzer, she is a delight. But I also have Fibromyalgia, and no longer have what it take a to train dogs anymore. And I have to admit, because schnauzers are very vocal dogs, sometimes Mya in all her glory makes my body hurt. She can't help it, so I am patient with her but it's true.

I hope that you will reconsider. Seems to me like your trying very hard to fill a void in your life. Your at an age where your life should be exciting, with a job, or school, friends and moving out on your own. Why not focus your energy on those things, rather then add to an already financially stressful situation.

I fully agree with you Tabitha. I calmly explained this to Lovely in her post entitled "Most of You". I asked her how could she afford this if she can not even afford to take Nips to the vets. Dogs are not cheap. When I lived with my parents I never got a animal against their will. There was a time in my teen years that I wanted a ferret but my parents made it clear the only animals they would allow in the house were birds. I held my tongue on this post for a couple of days but I also can not stand the idea of a puppy barely being looked after. She even once posted if it came down to it she would sell her lovebirds.

I've edited my earlier encouraging post after reading the additional information. Thanks everyone for "filling me in".

OP, please take the advice being given to you. I have dogs and I can confirm that they cost a lot of money. If there is ANY doubt that you have the amount of money you need to properly care for a dog, don't take it on. Having to rehome because of something you already know would not be fair on the dog and it will be very upsetting for you having to give up the dog. Look at cute puppies on the internet and "cluck" over them, but don't bring one home until you are sure that you have the means (financial and physical) to provide for its needs.

i hope very much that you take the advice this time and NOT get the dog, you've been told in multiple threads now that its a bad idea... in your first thread a long time ago, and in the last thread where you were thinking about it.. it's utterly selfish to bring a pet into a home where there's already financial troubles, especially against your parents wishes. i dont understand how you can just let wise advice from countless members here so far go in one ear and out the other. i'm disappointed that our faces are being rubbed into the results of our efforts. frankly, i doubt you will even listen to anyone on this thread. in the end, i pray that no pets are hurt because of this selfish decision. but reality is harsh i suppose and you can't help people who refuse good advice.

good luck and i hope things work out for the best.

I was wondering if someone was going to say something negative about getting this puppy, which was my first thought - I'm glad someone did and that opened up the gate. Any dog is expensive, there is the food, the vet bills, there is the time involved, and that particular breed should be groomed and clipped professionally, so that's more cash. Also, you don't have your own place. What happens if you get kicked out or want to move out? Where are you going to move with a dog? Most landlords won't allow you to bring it. Dog's, like all pets, are not dispoable and are a lifetime commitment - and the older they get, the more the vet bills cost. Plus accidents happen. Honestly Lovely, you just don't seem mature enough for this right now. Plus I think I remember that you all already have three dogs - can't you give them the attention you'd give this puppy? That at least would be a win/win situation.
