Now THAT is undeniable!
And now I'm just not sure what to do. They're both adorable, I couldn't say that one is cuter than the other. And they're both birds that are known for being snuggly and friendly and "easy" so far as macaws goes. I just have... no idea how to decide.
Does anyone happen to know if one or the other would be more likely to be... chill? Like, lay in bed and watch a movie together chill?
When I first got my Eclectus I was a little afraid of his beak. They actually have REALLY big beaks for their size.. dwarfs an African Grey or a Galah's beak, and they're all similarly sized birds.
After having him for a bit and realizing how gentle and sweet he is, though, his beak doesn't phase me at all. He's always got my fingers in his mouth, he preens hubby's beard, rests his beak against my cheek and closes his eyes, etc.
I would have been way too scared of a macaw beak at first, but now that I've been around birds more.. I mean, it still seems big (I swear, it's like the size of my Eckie's head).. but not scary anymore.
And I swear, it's the little ones that hurt the most! When I go to visit my baby there are always others flying around who land on you. I think African Greys must hate me, because they always end up biting me. And gosh darn if that doesn't hurt! Their little beaks are so SHARP and POINTY, omg. If my eckie gets too riled up when we're playing (he likes to beak wrestle) and gets me with the same amount of pressure as those Greys, it is really just an uncomfortable squeeze.
Edit: The first time I saw a macaw we were looking at cockatiels as a possible bird for my daughter (she got a sun conure) and the macaw was tearing apart a two-by-four! I near had a heart attack.

I AGREE. I would much rather deal with a pissed off big mac than a pissed off CAG. The big mac will probably just pinch. The CAG draws blood every time, and those birds have a beak like a scissors...
I used to give people heart attacks just to get their attention so they wouldn't do anything foolish. I've been using ABC blocks as foot toys for years. When I take my birds out in public I keep one in my pocket. I give them to people and invite them to snap them in half, and get them to agree that it would take an incredible amount of force, and would be difficult to impossible to do...
Then I hand it to Maggie, who snaps it like a twig!!!
Then I remind people NOT to stick their fingers in her face.
I've never had to remind anyone twice... It gets my point across fairly convincingly. Especially when I compare the thickness and density of a wood block to the thickness and density of an arm bone...
OH YES THEY COULD!!!
They don't because we train them not to, and don't do anything stupid to provoke them... but they certainly could if they were so inclined.
The fact that they would much rather be a mushy pile of feathers on your lap speaks volumes...
