Saw my little baby again.. but.. torn..

Well I got to see baby bird again -- it's been a long three weeks waiting!

He didn't grow as much as I'd feared he might in the last few weeks (nope, still don't know if it's a boy or a girl, but I'll just say he for ease), but is noticeably bigger, especially all the extra feathers on top of his head.

He was veeeery talkative today and was honking like a little baby goose (almost sounded like he was saying "nunh unh") for quite a long time.

After maybe an hour he tucked his little head under my arm and decided to take a nap.

He still has the cutest little face.

When I put him back with his little scarlet macaw friend, as I was leaving, they had a cute little snuggle session.

Where I'm torn though, is a little harlequin macaw they had there today that I haven't seen before.

Something about him/her just really caught my eye. Maybe how he kept opening up his little wings like he was convinced he was going to start flying.

And now I'm just not sure what to do. They're both adorable, I couldn't say that one is cuter than the other. And they're both birds that are known for being snuggly and friendly and "easy" so far as macaws goes. I just have... no idea how to decide.

Does anyone happen to know if one or the other would be more likely to be... chill? Like, lay in bed and watch a movie together chill?

Personality wise?! I can't say there is a discernable difference.

These are both mellow, easy macs, and both will be content to hang out and be lap birds.

Both... Hmmm....

Guess I shouldn't have said that, huh?!

"Both!" - that crossed my mind right away too! LOL But pssst... I didn't say anything. If you still want only one rely on your gut feeling - you'll probably be able to make a good choice. They are both super adorable!!

RECOGNIZING PARROT ADDICTION, AND ADMITTING YOU HAVE A PROBLEM IS AN IMPORTANT FIRST STEP... (And I know cuz I am one.)

There is no known cure, so the second step is simply not taking on more than you can handle or afford. (Two hands, two shoulders, two legs, so that means SIX right?! So, actually I can still get one more too!)

Besides, my house has four bird lovers in it. Wouldn't that allow me 24? I'm a LONG way off from reaching the limits of my addic--- oh wait.. uh.. from.. my.. limit. Yes.

Beyond that, I'm virtually certain I could fit at least one or two on top of my head as well.

Haha, well he certainly doesn't think he's mine. He keeps flying away from me to chase after her. He's become quite adept at managing the hallways now so he can get into her room.

How exciting for you to be bringing home a baby. I would also be having a hard time deciding between the two babies. Shortly after Valentino came home his breeder had a BTM in which the prospective parents had to pull out so he was available. I had to think long and hard about purchasing him. I came very very close to having two babies in the house.

Was there an intervention held on my behalf ..... well....sort of. I did have it pointed out to me that both macaws were very similar in personality so in effect it would be double the joy but also double the "negative" aspects of each species. I did realize that having them both would of been very hard for me. I had to pass on bringing home the BTM.

It is wonderful that you get to visit the babies and interact with them. Are you locked in on the Blue and Gold? Did you already make your deposit to "hold" the baby for you? If not talk to the breeder and tell them how you feel. Maybe they will be willing to give you time to be with both babies so you can make your decision. I think I reconize the breeder being AZ Parrots. If they are your breeder I am very envious of you experiences with them. Last year I watched two baby Panama Amazons grow via their bird buddies photos and was communicating with them about bringing one home. Unfortunately for now I will have to wait until I am more stable before I can bring home another parrot. I KNOW it will be much healthier for Valentino to have at least one other parrot to be in the same room for when I am at work all day. At this time he is the only animal left in my home so it is hard on him being alone while I am at work.

Someday I would like to add a Panama Amazon to my family and when that day comes I will be going though AZ Parrots.

Anyway if you realize your addiction is swaying for you to bring home both babies problem solved right? LOL. If reason decides to take back over the mind and you need to only choose one baby I know that would be very hard to make that decision. If possible I would have the baby choose the family through visits and interactions with them both.

That is my breeder -- we also got our eclectus through them. We've had nothing but fantastic experiences; they are wonderful people.

I have put down a deposit on my blue and gold baby, but if I really wanted to change my mind they would not give me any trouble about it.

The more I think about it though, I don't think I'll be able to change my mind. I've already got it in my head (and heart) that he is mine. The thought was interesting at first because the harlequin did keep catching my eye, but I feel a little sad whenever I think about not bringing home that blue and gold. Plus, I've already whispered in his ear a thousand times that he's mine -- I can't let him down now!

When I volunteered at the rescue, there wasn't a single day that I was there I didn't absolutely fall in love with at least five birds...

I refrained from bringing them all home though...

Well, all except ten of them. (I already had one.)

I still have five of those ten. The other five have passed on now.

There won't be a six. (unless it is immediately preceded by six winning numbers.)

The only real difference between the two would be size, I think. I've seen male harlequins easily rival the size of a greenwing. I always tell people to go with their gut, and if your gut tells you to go with both then so be it. Best of luck in your decision.. What's another two, right? Lol
