Sam's Place! Happy Hut reimagined for a special Quaker parrot

Good to know that vegetable dye works so well as paint! This is seriously some impressive work.

Where do you get your wood from? I'm looking for a safe supplier but have no idea where to start. I'm worried that everything has industrial gunk on or inside of it.

I buy untreated white pine for most of my toys. I've been using it for Poppy's wood chew toys for years so I know it's safe. The poplar is from a local Home Depot, it's sold for doll houses. I asked Home Depot to check with the supplier to make absolutely certain it's untreated in case Sammy decides to chew the walls. Our Home Depot employees know me well, who knows what the call me behind my back. A little paranoid, maybe.

Where do you get the untreated white pine? Also from Home Depot?
I bought all of my pvc pipe and fittings for both pvc stands I've made at my local Home Depot. I know I must have looked so odd; a scrawny, all black-clad young woman with a bucket full of pvc fittings. Definitely not the typical customer there. The cashier thought it was funny when I explained that I was making a stand for my parrots.

I buy pre-cut and vegetable-dyed pine squares for Nilly from an online bird store, but I'd like to try making a few things with my boyfriend for her and the rest of the birds. I enjoy making things for them and am trying to do it more. I've been sick, so I fell out of the swing of things a bit. That's why your post made me so happy! It makes me feel motivated to get back to it.

I have bought white pine from Home Depot for chew toys, but I prefer a local lumber company, I just like their sources better, I think it's the same product. I've bugged our local Home Depot employees so much they hardly notice my weirdness anymore, they don't even blink when I tell them an item must be SS. Poppy loves her wood chew toys but right now she's obsessed with a dirt cheap toy I made for her with straws and beads after she tried to steal a smaller one from a flock mate.

You are a great toymaker, I've seen some of your cute creations. You'll have fun making and coloring your own wood pieces. It's sort of addicting. I'm sorry you've been ill, glad you're feeling better. It's nice to feel motivated.

Back to the drawing board. Major design flaw! Quakers have their own ideas. I thought Sammy was stashing his favorite sticks under his bed but no....

He was actually jacking up his bed so he could heave it overboard. I'm glad he was above the crash. So I guess I'll order him a tent from MSBS to put in his bedroom.

I can't really blame him, I'd hate the skunkskin pattern too. :)
