Yellow Shoulder Amazon, Salty
So folks don't have to wade thru the other thread, Salty as of 11:00AM 12/22 was sitting quietly in his cage, after having a peanut ( out of shell), a piece of banana with pain med on it, and a few pellets. He still has a problem to open his beak fully, but I think that's more because its painful then a physical limitation. Last night, believe it or not, he was eager to do some training and we went thru a half dozen of the easy tricks that don't involve him having to open his beaky too much. Tricks like turning circles, rolling over , shaking hands, doing the pole dance he did, and was begging to do more. Going thru his big yellow hoop was no problem, but the trick where he does it by himself was too painful.

He is getting an early X-mas present tonight, I got him a large diameter manzanita wood sleeping perch ( like 3" dia).

On behalf of Mrs Wrench ( Geri) and Salty and myself, a big big 2016 Holiday THANK YOU for all the prayers and special thoughts. I was amazed by all the attention this small green bird engendered - even my boss, the stone faced Mr. John R. kept asking how he was. Salty is not 100% out of the woods yet but confidence is pretty good. I am going to take up his default thread for further status, so we don't clutter up the board.

Wow, wow, wow!! So happy to hear this, Al. Salty seems eager to return to his former self, soon to be better than ever!

This is such wonderful news, I am sure he will be back to normal really soon. I have a huge smile on my face:)

Wonderful news, this update made my day much happier! Al, I'm delighted for you, Salty and Geri.

Just catching up with this. So very glad to see he's feeling better. these little guys have a way of stopping your heart, don't they? Love that he was eager to train. That's super sweet.

Good gravy!! Haven't been on for a couple of weeks and come back to find THIS!! So sorry that Salty was injured but VERY grateful it wasn't worse!! Charlie uses three straightened boings to traverse the cages and play stand. The whole structure takes up half of the living room. I would use a short length of chain to attach the ends of the boings and attach the other end to the bolt in the ceiling. that way Salty still has his highway but he can grip it easily, as for padding grab a couple of kinder mats ( kindergartners use them for napping, they are vinyl and clean up in a jiffy. ) They are cheap at about five bucks each and it's just a four foot by two foot length of foam covered in vinyl. Wal mart has them but you may have to ask. They also fold and can be put away quickly. Good wishes for a speedy recovery for Salty. I do enjoy hearing about his exploits and feel like I know his fluffy, feathery self!

The Parrot Forums can BREEEEEEATHE again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was wondering if eating was hard for him. Poor little guy. Is he going eat soft foods for a while? My vet gave me the idea to soak almonds so they soften. My crew likes them this way. I'm glad he's doing better, improvement little by little each day.

Salty still has difficulty / pain to open his mouth all the way or manipulate food with his beak. I would expect this in some kind of bruise or muscle strain in the muscles that control his beak. He did train a bit again last night, but its heart wrenching to see him try and do some of the tricks that he loves to do, like flipping his big yellow ring, and have it hurt too much to do it. He is climbing around some but still resting a lot. Little bit better every day.

Way to go Salty. You really had us going! Hey Wrench, can you tell me the brand of that chain Salty fell from? I want to be sure to order one for the Rickeybird. Not to, I mean. Not to.
Get better, Salty!

It is just heavy , yellow polypropalene chain, from home despot. LOL, right up Mr R. Bird's alley.

Nice to hear Salty is gradually improving. I'm sure he really enjoys the interaction with his parronts and toys!!
