Salsa's beak & my thumb

Wharfrat you're lucky, I have to fix Auggies cage with SS chains and pad locks, even his toys are attached to his cage with small pad locks. He can undo screws, nuts and bolts (even lock bolts) and he has broken spot welds. When he escapes he goes to the other birds cages and removes toys and some times even doors. I once cane home and found him sitting in my CAG's cage. Needles to say the Grey was none too happy.

LMAO!! I'll get a pic of the Zon's door and see if you still call me lucky!!!

I started a new thread so we quit "hijackin" Plax's thread :)

Re: Salsa's beak & my thumb (update)

Well, here's an updated pic of my thumb. It's definitely a hematoma. Looks like it's gonna be there for a while ;).

This one doesn't hurt anymore, thankfully. Most of the pain was right after he did it.

I should've gotten pics when that Scarlet tore me up so bad, there was blood all over the breeder's floor..... Taking pics wasn't exactly on my mind at the time though..:54:

Yeah, I much prefer my bruised thumbnail bed to torn flesh and pools of blood! :11:

I feel your pain... did he latch on or did he just do a quick bite??? I hope it was just quick.. when Monte latched on to me... as I've said.. my finger was numb for 3 months...had I not shook him off.. he would've taken the finger.. I know it..

It was extremely quick; his release was immediate. He was merely afraid of the dremel tool being near his head. So it was a fear strike. Salsa is really a sweet bird - if a bit unaware of his own strength!

Ouch! Sorry! :(

My little guys bites always pierce skin. They move so fast it's like.... a snake or something. :p The biggest bird I've been bitten by was last week, a CAG. Although thats still small, I think Oliver's hurt more.

Re: Salsa's beak & my thumb (update)

And here's what it looks like now:

Neat, ay? It's gonna be part of me for a while... now wherever I am I can look down at my thumb and be reminded of my sweet red boy :D

(Edit: That dark redness to the right of my thumb knuckle isn't really there. It just came out that way from the shadow.)

Oh boy...Salsa sure did a number there. It'll take a LONG while to grow all out. Do you think you have serious damage to the nailbed, Plax? :11: I hope the nail doesn't separate from the bed.

I don't know. I've had plenty of nail trauma before but never down near the base like this. I'm surely going to find out! ;)

Re: Salsa's beak & my thumb (update)

Not quite 2 months since the squeeze and it seems pretty clear I'm going to lose the thumbnail. Here's what it looks like now...

That flesh colored area at the base of the nail is a narrow canyon that's widening - nail material has stopped growing.

I agree with you Plax [and he is so beautiful!!! thanks for posting pictures] I think smaller birds bites are worse. Funny how you can still feel it the next day:) I can see how people can be afraid of them .If their comparing how a small birds bite feels a bigger bird must be so much worse. [its not] DONT BE AFRAID OF MACAWS:):):)

EINA
That looks so sore and it's quite sometime after the initial bite.
I have always loved Macaws, they are actually my dream birds.
After seeing THAT bite, I reckon I will continue loving them FROM A DISTANCE.
