Safety while in a harness?

I have taken Cody outside a few times before in his flight suit, and never really thought anything of it. But after hearing how birds of prey can be such a huge concern, I'm wondering if harnessing takes away/reduces that risk? I mean, it certainly won't stop them from trying, but does having them on a harness any safer? I'm scared to death to take him out now, as I just assumed he was perfectly safe because he was in a harness! Not sure why though, now that I think about it, that logic is pretty flawed. :scared01: What are your thoughts?

I don't have any experience with a harness (yet) but I believe the most common cause for losing a companion parrot when outside is due to the parrot being spooked and taking off. Being on a harness simply keeps them within reach if this does happen. I guess if you want the harness for flight practice keep a look out for other birds when he's flying. Mynahs are our biggest issue where I live, we don't have eagles or hawks that could cause any damage if they were to attack so I guess you'll have to weigh that up.

I would think if the bird is on your shoulder/hand then an attack would be unlikely. That video of the zoo keeper being attacked during a bird show has been posted around the place (you have probably seen it), but lets remember that bird is used to humans. I would think most wild birds of prey would think twice before attacking a bird on a human. I think you will only have to worry 'a lot' if you were using a flight line or letting him explore at a distance. Although, never hurts to consider the possibility.

I don't take any of my birds outside, I think it's too risky and that they don't really like it, that they would much rather stay with their flock.
