Yesterday I noticed my BCC has been frequently itching and rubbing his right eye with his foot/nails; about every few minutes to every few seconds.

He will let me rub the area too, but while inspecting in and around his eye, I didn't notice any redness, bumps, goop, extra watery, etc. so I'm drawing a blank on what it may be. As of now the only issue I could think of is possibly itchy feathers or skin irritation of some sort, though the feathers look to be grown normally.

I did some initial online searching to see if anyone has encountered a similar behavior, however, most I have found feature some observable symptom such as swolleness or redness or scratches; as far as I can tell his eye looks normal. I attached pictures of his right side.

Does anyone else have ideas about this behavior? Or experienced something similar?

You could try a shower or misting to see if this helps but seek AV assistance if this persists.

I tried misting him with warm water from a spray bottle but he wasn't fond of that, so I didn't continue.
Perhaps taking him in a humid room like a bathroom for a few minutes?

Yes, if he continues or symptoms appear, we will be going to the vet.

looks like he has a sore eye, be it from the rubbing or something else who knows I'd advise a trip to the AV too

Also try just room temperature water not warm. My bird prefers cooler water for some reason.

I'd also see an AVN.

Forgot to post a reply,

Frequent itching has stopped; occasionally itches around eye and face in general but not nearly as often. We started daily misting with a spray bottle to get his feathers moist. Also considering setting up a humidifier in the room; humidity without is around 20%, I have read 30-50% is more ideal for the tropical species.

I also am lead to believe the itching may have been due to some irritating feathers. Recently, a few pin feathers have emerged where he would usually itch with his foot, so perhaps when those pins were still in the initial stages they caused his face to be itchy. Always watching it, but for now his eyes seem ok.

Nice, good it's not something you have to worry about.
