Ringneck alexandrine cross??

What is the opinion of a ringneck - alexandrine cross? Especially temperament. My neighbor had an accidental breeding of her Indian ringneck and alexandrine and has offered me one. I've always loved ringnecks but to be honest, am wary of their nippiness, Would this hybrid be less nippy?

A hybrid is likely to be MORE “nippy” because of the confusion brought on by being a hybrid. Honestly it drives me nuts when irns are called that because it’s all about how they are raised and none of my pet Ringnecks bite on a regular basis, but the rule of thumb is to expect any hybrid to exhibit the worst traits of both species; and an Alex has the bite force of a macaw.

That said, the birds have a potential to be great pets, like I said I reject the label of “nippy” but I wouldn’t take that baby unless you are prepared to bleed. Often. I’ve been told that alexandrines bluff longer and harder than IRNs...

Honestly it biggest worry would be what damage an accidental breeder will do to the mind of the bird completely by accident while honestly doing their best, and what kind of long term complications that will lead to. Most people who raise Ringnecks ruin them anyway, so I’m worried about the babies already. It would be a huge commitment and risk for you, but it may be the love of your life; really only you can decide that.

I just glanced through previous posts; it looks like you would really want your bird to be sort of hands-on, a cuddly bird. If that is true, if petting is important to you, then you should NOT get an Alex OR an IRN since they are both pretty much famous for not really liking to be touched. So I really would not recommend you taking this baby; it sounds like you really want the opposite.
