Ok I am moving from the Texas Panhandle to Mobile Alabama in February. My concern is My Blue & Gold I have raised from a baby has never been out of out home except to go out side never has she been on a trip. Whats the best way to transport her so she is not stressed to much its going to be a 2 day trip. I am making a pretrip to find a rent house in a couple of weeks so hope to find one that will allow pets if not that creates another issue of maybe having to sell her or rehome her which I perfer not to do.

When we moved from missouri to pennsylvania we started putting my birds in there travel crate for anhour each day. Once we got them used to being in the travel carrier. We went on small trips for like fifteen minutes with them in there travel carriers.
Hope this helps. Take care

You should do several dry runs in the car so bird can get used to this. Have you not taken the bird to a vet's office?

Yep My bord has seen the vet for checkups a few times and to get nails trimmed ect not sure what that has to do with moving her

i actually was thinking the same thing as spiritbird, you stated that your bird had never been out of the house...that is probably why he asked

I see yep been to the vet been around the neighbor hood but no real trips

We moved from near San Antonio to central Kentucky about two years ago, and I had two macaws, a GW and a RFM. I had a big travel cage for the GW- she went to work with us on a regular basis- but the RFM was suspicious of travel, as it usually resulted in a nasty trip to the vet. I spoke with our vet, and I purchased the biggest cage I could fit in the backseat of my 4 door pickup. I loaded them up- and told them ( the birds) what we were doing- and settled in for the haul. We stopped in Arkansas at a hotel for a quick chance to sleep- it was "pet friendly" - I just didn't say what kind of pet- hauled everybody up into the room, put lots of newspapers under/around the cages, broke open food, water, grapes---they perched on the sides of the cages- I took enough of a nap that I was safe to drive in the rest of the way. I kept H20, fruit and kibble available in their travel cages, even if it made a mess. It was stressful but they weathered the trip ok. As soon as we arrived, I had help to set up their cages and got them settled in. In a day they were acting like themselves. My RFM screamed from Blanco to Arkansas.
We considered renting a travel trailer, but just gutted it up and drove them.

yea def do few short runs get him used to it i done the same with mine. just buy urself decent sized dog crate. i attached a perch inside for traveling as he prefers sitting on a perch

yeah to get Jack ready for trips i did small trips and the usual vet trips, he did just fine and this past weekend i took him with me to Delaware which is a 9 hour one-way trip and no problems what so ever.

Being this is a much bigger bird it is probably a big difference due to not eing able to move around the crate as good unless it is really big?
