Hello everyone ,
My girlfriend and I are looking to re home our Umbrella Cockatoo, flower. Flower is about 13 years old(per information we were given when we rescued her a year ago). Flower has been a really great bird for us for the last year or so. She bonded to both my girlfriend and I pretty well and tolerated most guess very well. She does seem to favor strange women or over strange men. And did prefer my girlfriend a little more than me but would gladly spent time with either of us when she could. Honestly it kills us both to have to let her go but we underestimated how much time and attention she would need. We both work full days as teachers right now and flower demands attention the entire time we are home after school until we put her to bed. We can't be with her as often as she would like and we feel bad but it's just not possible for us. So we are hoping to find someone who has the time, room and experience to care for her. Anything that we have for flower would come free with her. Including 2 cages, a Java tree, some stands, carrying bags, toys. Etc.. if she had to be delivered would be all that you had to pay for. I have a truck, I'd be willing to drive a reasonable distance to take her to a good home. I would require proof of experience with cockatoos, and proof that you have the time and space she would need before giving her up to anyone. Barring some major event im hoping that the person we give her up to will keep her until one of them passes, I don't want her bouncing from home to home. She's a good bird and doesn't deserve that. We just want her to be happy and properly cared for. We have 2 dogs and a cat whom she got along with fairly well but the cat and dogs were well trained on how to act around the bird so we had very few issues after the initially few months. Like I said she's been pretty good with strangers but she did recently start puffing up at some people sometimes when they came in the house. She only ever bit me (we went through a rough patch after we went on a long vacation it corrected itself after a few weeks) and one other person whom she hates a lot still to this day(a neighbor). She's never been around children or anyone younger than about 20 so I'm not sure how that would go. I attached a picture of her. She's a looker! Let me know if you think you could be her forever home!
