African Red-Bellied Parrot - Perry
Any ideas why my 1-year-old red belly is losing his color? I've attached representative before and after pictures to help with what I'm talking about. I am feeding him organic pellets, a variety of mashes, fresh, organic veggies, and have just started adding vitamin A to his water. What else could be wrong?

Thanks,
Riz

Are you sure Perry is male?

Those are pictures of a male bird and then a female bird.

Can you get photos of your bird?

Females tend to have less red then the males. Did your bird molt out like this? Maybe he is actually a she?

Hmmmm that's what I was thinking, possibly a female?

Oh, it's not the same bird. I skimmed over that.

Baby Red Bellies apparently lose their colour REALLY early if they're female, which is why I asked.

Females arn't really "red bellied" at all - mainly green! :p

Can't think of any other reason to lose the colouring to be honest, not if "he" is in good feather otherwise.

So one is a picture of a male and the other a different picture of a female?

Yeah, first one might be a baby though. I'm not sure.

He did say he was using 'representative' pictures, so not his birds. But my guess is Perry is actually a pretty little lady!

Perry is a she . My Tiki looks just like her. Even that first picture looks like a female My Tiki had more orange on her chest till she got her adult moult. I had googled 5 mo old redbellied pictures and the males don't have all the green. I had answered an add on craigs list for a male which the woman thought she was and I didn't know enough to know the difference. However she is a doll and is now my favorite parrot. However if you look up those pictures at 5 mo they look like two different birds almost. Not as dramatic as the ecchys but a big difference in color. The younger females can have quite a bit of orange feathers diffused on their chest which they later lose:)
