Re-homed Macaw question

I eat and share my food with my boys, they seem to enjoy it. Birds in the wild like to eat together so you are his flock, eat away. I'm glad he's doing better. I would only do the seeds as treats and insist that he/she has a better diet of fresh fruit and Vegs. If your giving nuts, it's better to give almonds over peanuts, Peanuts are high in fat and with shell, they sometimes can carry fungus. Have you tried a hard boiled egg with shell and remove the yoke, Macaws love them and is very good for them. I both my boys 1/2 hard boiled egg 2 times per week. Best of luck. Joe

It does happen some times when they won't eat. DID you change his food from what they were feeding him at the pet shop??? Sometimes due to the stress, you should not change anything! New cage, toys, environment, etc. ALL can be cause of it. It's not just for Macaws, it's for all birds! So it doesn't matter your 5 other macaw didn't show this symptom, it can happen as I have owned over 150 birds at one point. Anytime when you bring a new animal home, it is best to keep the same exact food as they were eating then start changing gradually. IF you can get the same cage, please do! Some birds are nervous in new cages and it can take days for them to get accustom to the new cage. Like it was mentioned above, constant interaction is good to let them know your around. Good luck!
