I wanted to update you all with a fresh picture of Valentino but photobucket is down for maintenance. Bummer. Oh well next time I will put up a picture of beautiful Valentino.
Well Valentino has begun his teenage years. He has been more willful and just so naughty. I had a garage sale last weekend so I had my sister and my best friend helping me out so every time they came into the house to use the bathroom Valentino would chatter to them while they did their business. Too funny. Karen wanted to know what Valentino wanted her to look at because he kept telling her "look at it!" Thursday was the first time my sister met Valentino. Her comment "Wow he sure is big." LOL I would of put Valentino is his small cage and had him out with us but the weather was just too darn cold to have him out with us.
Lately Valentino has taken to jumping into my face. I am really not comfortable with the jumping bean just launching himself up into my face. He can be standing on the counter and suddenly BOING he jumps and I have him staring at me beak to nose. I had accidentally knocked my nose with his beak and it started bleeding. It is hard to get blood off those beautiful feathers. I did freak when Valentino licked the blood thinking he was going to get some kind of disease from doing that but the Vet told me not to worry.
April 12th my Ex took Julio back to the rescue in MO. Since then Valentino has been the only animal in the house and I wonder if this has a effect on him. I am trying to be careful with over bonding issues because I do have to go back to work asap. I have been away from the house more often for longer periods of time and Valentino has now learned the sound my car engine makes because I can hear him calling to me parking the car in the driveway outside the home. Eventually when things become settled and we have our own home I would like to get one more parrot. I have never had less than two parrots and would like to get at least one more.
I was wondering if anyone could give some suggestions with helping Valentino get though these teenage times. I don't want him to end up over bonded to me and I do worry that he gets lonely because he is the only animal here. I don't think leaving on the stereo is practical and leaving on the TV is a lot more impractical (I don't have a small set I can use just for him and the current set blows up converter boxes and I'm down to my last box. Once the converter box goes I will have no TV downstairs) I am constantly challenged with finding and giving him enough things for him to enjoy and play with while in the cage. What can be harder for him to work out than one of those Frasier metal boxes with the screws and nuts? He figured out that thing so quickly I had to throw my hands up in the air and sigh.
Now that the weather is getting nicer I hope to be able to do more with Valentino outside the home so I can get him out there to socialize and help with his cabin fever. LOL
