Hi there! Wow this has been a BUSY few months. We moved in July to a bigger house, that allows me to have an open bird room!!! The room is right off the living room and is open. NO fans in either this room or our living room, so the birds are free to fly everywhere when they are out and we don't have to worry about turning off a fan, YAY!!! Its called our Computer/bird room. I have 2 benches set up on one side with shelf liner for the 3 cages that do not have stands on one wall, and the play stand, the conure cage, my baker's rack (where I keep all our bird supplies) and my tiel cage on the other wall. We luv it and the birds luv it.
So much news. I hate that I haven't been on here in so long, but we have been so busy! Bad new first, was the day after we moved, I went to work and my husband let the tiels out cuz they are so used to being out, and since I hadn't finished putting up their normal perching places up yet, Calypso flew into the kitchen and my daughter opened the back door to come in, and she flew out!!! No she is not clipped, as she is the one that came to us first when I worked at the wildlife center, and she came to us with a mended broken wing as she was found that way. She had never been a great flyer so I was always afraid to clip her. My husband just didn't know. He felt terrible. I immediately put an ad on craigslist and we got her back in 10 days!!!!! She flew right into someone's house and they fed her, borrowed a cage and went about trying to find her owner. What a relief!!! Well not long after we got her back, she decided her friend Syrio (my dad's normal grey tiel that she has been sharing her cage with) could be her new romeo. They are now sitting on 3 eggs! Due to hatch in about 2 weeks or so! I actually moved their cage to our master bedroom so they could have a little bit more quiet and privacy.
So right now, we have the 2 tiels, my kids 2 male parrotlets, Link and Nimbus, my kids 2 linnies, Sonic and Yoshi (all 4 males) in 2 dif cages, the fat girls that I have just been raising for my breeder Christine. they are almost a violet blue, cobalt linnies that we have nicknames 2 ton Sally and Big Bertha, cuz they are gargantuan. We also have our sweet, crazy conures, MY Midori, Luna, Sunshine and Moonshine (nicknamed Shiner.) The conures all play together during the day, but as I am hoping to one day breed Shiner and Sunshine, they sleep in a dif cage at night. The 2 fat girls will be going back to my breeder's house tonight.
Luna has been our biggest surprise. She was the bird that my friends found in their yard, that we tried for weeks to find her owner. I called L&M bands, and Avian Biotech, while my friend called vets offices, and pet shops. we also put an ad on CL to no avail. After a quarantine, she has fit rather nicely into our flock. The other conures luv her and she does very well with them also. I did not think she would ever be real tame though, but BOY was I wrong. She now absolutely adores me. She will sit on my shoulder all day long if I would let her. She nods when we ask her questions and she gives me tons of kisses and grooms me all the time. What a doll. She really only prefers me though. She and Midori share a cage and are doing very well together. Its been a crazy but fabulous summer!
My question is about Luna's mutation. When I take camera pics of her, they make her look brown. She looks like a turquoise, but a muted one, which makes me wonder if she is a Misty Turquoise? Does anyone have any idea on what a Misty Turquoise would look like? I am having a hard time finding any pics that look like her on the net. I will attach some pics of her and our bird room. Hope everyone is well, and hope all the birds are doing great!!!
This is Luna. She is only Turquoise and grey, but very muted.
