Question about BF Amazon

They can start making other sounds at any point, most around 4 moths or so. Talking is very much an individual bird thing. Salty has been talking for almost 5 moths and he is 10 months old. More common is around 1 year. The more you talk to your bird the more likely they will talk back! Thats my opinion.

yes i fed her kaytee exact baby bird food last night from a syringe. but when i feed mushy food her droppings become more and looks mushy aswell. so its not a problem right? thank you :)

PERFECT!!!! It's normal for the droppings to be more watery when handfeeding. No worries! :)

Please keep us posted on your pretty baby BF, ok?

hello guys i am sorry i have another question again.
since i brought the bird home it had a terrible smell and I've been showering regularly still the smell isn't much on the body but i presume its coming from the birds nose. So i spoke to a petshop and they suggested giving a worming drop but its for digestive issues right?

 Does your BF smell or his droppings?

Amazons DO have a distinct odor. I LOVE huffing my Amazons. What's the odor/smell like? Is it a little 'musky'???

I'd continue giving regular baths, but I wouldn't deworm him unless I was 100% certain he had worms. :)

And please, never apologize for asking questions.

PS. My bags are packed....I'm coming to the Maldives for a visit, HAHAHAHA!!!! I need a vacation. :32:

Great, Maldives is always welcome for kind people like you :)
and the smell isn't from the droppings just the bird itself. and i guess this isn't a smell anyone would like at any point. I've been a bird owner since i was a child and had many birds but this time I'm just clueless with this amazon. hence all these questions. first of all the ONLY noise he makes is the noise when baby birds make when hungry or while feeding. i haven't heard anything else. I've read on other threads that most amazons start making different noises when they're quite young and start talking by the time they reach 9 or 10 months.

Is there any way for you to visit other Amazons and... smell them? :54: May sound strange, I know, but I still wonder if it's the 'Amazonian' thing that you smell. A few people REALLY have a problem with that particular scent.

As for him still only making the begging noises, I'm almost willing to bet that in a few months he'll be doing a LOT more than just begging for food. :) IMO he's truly very young, much younger than 9 months.

Can he fly or is he clipped?

he was clipped when i got him. and yes i will wait for a few months and give time for it to adjust as well. since the pet business in maldives is very tricky sometimes they con people a lot. so i just wanted to find out if there was a real issue. i guess there isn't. importing birds are also prohibited in maldives so only a few are available and there aren't much around who has amazons.

I've noticed after feeding the crop seems to be on her left side and takes hours to empty. And if its a yeast infection causing this what are the treatments? only sulphadim antibiotic is available in this country. :(

He looks just fine. :)

Does his crop smell sour? Or is there a bad odor coming from his mouth?

You can try giving him a few drops of Apple Cider Vinegar (Organic). But ONLY a few drops.

How many feedings do you do per day? You have to make sure the temperature is correct, so that his crop can empty properly. :)

yes the smell i was talking about earlier was actually coming from the mouth or the nose I'm not sure. i feed him formula only at night. during the day its mostly cooked carrots and green peas. thats what he loves to eat. and i started giving him aristopet multivitamin mixed in his water today aswell. if the crop is to a side it is not a problem right? his droppings are just normal.

hello guys.
today i called the seller of my amazon and asked about the noise the bird makes all the time.
its the sound baby birds make when they need food. well mine keeps doing it 24/7. so he told me the bird is grown enough to stop formula and it should eat seeds. and that sound it makes is due to not eating seeds. so he suggested i should minimise soft foods and always keep seeds available and thats the only way it will stop making that noise. and I'm quite amazed since an amazon parrot doesn't make any other sound and its really weird.

I'm not trying to be rude but the seller is not giving you good advice.

Your bird looks very much like a baby, and she is probably very hungry if she is making those noises. Offer her what she likes- soft fruits and vegetables! These are excellent foods and much better than seed. Seeds are not good.

I'm sorry, but you received WRONG/FALSE information. Please, under no circumstances stop feeding your baby formula. A young (unweaned) bird CAN and WILL starve himself.

Are you feeding him enough at each feeding? How much do you give him? Ideally he should take about 10% of his body weight. So let's say your baby BF weighs 300g, then he should take 30mg of formula. Depending on his age he should be fed 2-3 times per day. Don't feed if his crop hasn't emptied. The temperature must be right also.

And seeds are VERY bad for Amazons since they are prone to obesity.

I've given you this link before, please look at it again: http://www.parrotforums.com/parrot-...afe-fresh-foods-toxic-food-lists-sprouts.html

Offer fresh fruits and vegetables, too, but try and stay away from sunflower seeds. They are 'evil'.

Yes after all the research i have done also i never came across anything backing about feeding seeds. she eats lentil sprouts very well and formula i fed her during the night and her crop gets full. during the day she eats soft veggies and sprouts. I am just curious why she doesn't make any other noise. this may seem funny but after all the experiences i have had with other baby birds also this never occurred. and from most articles i read they always say that amazon makes different noises from 5 months onwards. so this is a concern for me.

I highly doubt she's close to 5 months. :) My money's still on your baby making a bunch of different sounds a few months down the road.

How's her crop smelling? Has the odor gone away? The ONLY other reason I can think of your baby constantly begging is because he's not feeling well.
