Hello and welcome to the forum Micgloth18, don't know that I could ever be owned by a quaker as they are as common here in the wild are as sparrows, finches and starlings in other parts of the country....lol , thanks for sharing the breeder info though

Hi this is Char,I had a congur for several years,he was close to 20 when I got him,ohhhhhhh what a sweetheart,

Last week I got a 12 week quarker,anouther girl was given him as a gift from older son,she also has a 10 year old artustic son,he was scared of the noises and had bad outburst.
She only had him a week or so.
I have started teaching him "up"took about 2 days an ddoing it most of the time(occiansional nip)followed by NO in a different mom tone of voice
Starting to make kissy noise.
Think he's gonna be a real brat hehe
just went to give him a piece o popcorn,he groweled,up a brat he is gonna be

Is it a good idea to adopt a 6 yr old quaker or get a baby? The older one talks and seems sweet but then you have a 8 week old baby...what is the benefit if any of adopting an older bird?

Well, for one all birds go through crazy hormonal changes when they reach breeding age, and no matter how tame they may have seemed you can wonder where your bird went and how in the world this one got into its' cage! Older birds have already adjusted to the changes and will have only a slight difference if any around that season. Also there's the fact that no bird will ever love you like a rescue, once you gain their trust. It is a challenge depending on what condition the older bird is in, but you could also take in a perfectly adjusted and well trained older bird that someone simply can no longer care for, which will probably come with a cage and (especially at rescues) they will help you with any questions you have and have MUCH lower fees than breeders.

Adopt the 6 year old, for sure. It sounds like it's a very social bird...that's a good sign. And as Cryptic says above, it's already reached sexual maturity, so you don't have to worry about a nutty bird phase. If it's you like it and can give it a good home, it will be a good option.

The 6 yr old quaker that I ask about adopting is coming from a home where the owner had the bird since she/he was 21 days old but because of health no longer can care for the bird. Also, can you change a quakers name at 6 yrs of age? Are quakers the sweet birds that all the info says they are? Thanks.

Yes, you can change his name. Especially if he does not know his original name. Even if he did, you could still train him to learn his new one. The myth, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" does not apply to birds; or anything really.
