Hi as I've been doing my research I came across several forums and found this one to be a very positive and supportive forum. My family is adding a Goffin to our flock of me, my hubby, 3 boys (20, 17 and 4) and our 3 yr old wheaten Charlie. We are working with a breeder Out of Tampa who I found online and came to like him immediately on the telephone. We have been on this quest for 2 years and now seems to be the right time. My whole life I have wanted an exotic bird so after a lot of research we are prepared as far as good and bad scenarios....I feel very positive although some of the other forums are terrifying. They make it seem terrible to own a Too. Anyway if anyone has worked with Suncoast or could give me some helpful words of wisdom as a new parrot owner I appreciate it.

Never worked with Suncoast but being a 'too owner isn't that terrifying! ;)

Welcome to the forum, hope we can help you on your journey to getting your new baby! Lots of Goffins lovers on here so I'm sure they'll be along in no time :p

First, congrats on your mew baby. :) Second, I got my Eclectus from Suncoast Aviculture & don't really have any complaints about dealing with Tom. My bird arrived happy & checked out well with the vet. Also the price was quite a bit less than most other breders. The only thing I can say about Suncoast is that sometimes Tom isn't the greatest when it comes to communication. He was pretty vague when I asked him questions in some emails. Still, overall I had a decent experience. Best of luck to you & your new 'too! :)

@Angelseri the baby hatched on 4/17 since I have been watching for a while I immediately contacted him via phone and we speak once a week. I sent him an email with questions and he answered all of them. I'm super excited so I could talk to him all day -we are going to Tampa in a few weeks to meet him and our baby Chico. Overall I'm glad to hear your experience was pleasant and your bird healthy and happy. Did you have him shipped?

Aww! I LOVE the name Chico. That's adorable!

Thanks. Our Wheaten Terrier is 'Charlie'....'Chico & Charlie' goes together quite nicely  but my grandfather who loved birds and would care for several wild in the yard and had a small GCC, his nick-name for his great grandchildren was Chico (my oldest boys called him that) - my youngest sons name is GIovanni for my other grandfather so had to give Chico some representation. We are so excited. I think I have read every article and watched every YouTube video...I'm obsessed!

@GiosMom: Maybe I just dealt with him at a busy time. I'm glad he's been communicating well with you. I did have my bird shipped. I'm in Wisconsin, so he had a long day of traveling (with a layover in Atlanta), but he still arrived in a good mood & ready to come to me right away. It's great that you get to go see your bird before you get him. Checking out Suncoast's setup is the one thing I wish I would've been able to do.

Well I will def let you know. All the way to Wisconsin! Omgosh, I live in the Ft Lauderdale area about 3.5 hours from Tampa....we are driving for the visits but I was contemplating having him shipped from Tampa to me it's a .55 minute flight. I'm just nervous it will be very traumatizing. I feel good knowing that your bird got to you in good shape. I might have him shipped just because the car ride is long and can end up being traumatic as well.....still on the fence about it

Welcome welcome!! I too am a proud owner of a Goffin!! There's actually a few of us on here. You are going to absolutely love your new baby, I can practically guarantee it. I've only had my Sugar in my home for 2 weeks now, but she's been mine for almost 8 weeks. She's a "rehomed" bird, not quite a year old. She is vocal, but her loudest scream doesn't compare to the M2's and U2's I hear often.

I hope all remains well and that you enjoy it here.

@ Charlies Mom we are neighbors! I liven Weston and visit and hang in Naples often....I will let you all know when Chico gets weaned and is "finally home". My 4.5 year old is super excited we visit the bird stores in the area and our bedtime reading is all about Goffins and bird care. Since he will be the one to inherit this little guy/gal. I can't believe we are finally doing it! The only problem I'm going to have is the cleaning. I'm a clean freak....I'm not worried about keeping him clean or undertaking the responsibility but I love bleach, tilex, Lysol, I mop every couple days vacuum daily have a cleaning lady weekly....I'm Itlian so we cook and clean....Iam a little stressed....thinking I need to figure out where we need to put him in when I'm doing the chores. Any advice? And also what are good alternatves?

Katherine I read your posts I totally am going to be in love! I can't wait! So glad to meet you online. Keep the advice coming I welcome all of it!

Since you're not too far away, having your bird shipped could end up taking just as long as the drive, considering he'd have to get to the airport early to get checked in, and they also make you wait about 45 min. after the flight arrival to get your bird because they need time to unload & get him over to the cargo area. Depending on your bird's personality, it might be easier on him to just go pick him up at Suncoast. Either wat though, I'm sure it'll work out fine. And yes, definitely let me know how it is at Suncoast! I'm very curious.

Thank you....I have bought cage cleaner and all those recommended items that are birdie safe. Unfortunately I am going to have to use bleach in the bathrooms ...it's unavoidable! I'm in a house full of boys with bad aim and the only one who is completely house trained is the dog! I will make sure windows are opened and areas are aired out for 1-2 hours and I decided to put an extra cage in my master bedroom for when I'm tasked with cleaning. When my cleaning lady comes I will take Chico to run errands and to Starbucks...gives me an excuse to take time for myself. In my case the bird is going to be easy! LOL....trust me

Congratualtions !!!!! Your in for a wild ride :)
