I have an opportunity to adopt a princess of whales and i'm wondering wht's there personality is like and do they like to be cuddeled ect or more independent...

A princess parrot? They are a more standoffish bird I believe... and small and delicate compared to what you already own.
They are more like a cockatiel, can learn how to speak but more or less keep to themselves on the whole. They are a delicate bird you interact with and not so much cuddle. Youtube it :) Thats what I do when I want an idea of what kind of bird it is.

They certainly seem to like tapping! lol They have a lovely call though.

Hello!

I met a Princess of Whales Parakeet once, in a pet store...absolutely beautiful bird I have to say, but oh that squawk!

Turned me off for sure! Not saying that once home he/she'd scream like that, but who knows.

It's my understanding they have the more independent personality, but that's not to say all of them do.

If you can spend some time with the one you might be able to adopt, you might be able to determine if it's the bird for you.

Good Luck and keep us posted :)

Never once in the nearly 20 years that I had Prinny did she make that loud screech. I'm guessing she was never around adult princess parrots making that noise when she was hand-raised & so never heard it?

My princess was never much of a talker, but she did say her own name, copy the microwave, wolf whistle & make up other whistling tunes. She loved my toes, would talk to them & regurgitate food for them. One of her favourite past times was throwing birthday cards off the mantle piece, & peering over to see where they landed. She liked showers, if she knew I was in the shower she'd fly up the hallway to the bathroom to find me & get her turn. Always wanted tastes of anything we were eating/drinking. When my son was born she was VERY put out - sulked & did not make a single noise AT ALL for about 12 months - then one day out of the blue she started whistling & chattering in her cage as if nothing had happened & she was back to normal from then on.

I loved that bird. I still talk to her empty cage (4 months later). But although she would let me pat her occasionally I would not say she was a cuddly bird, & she never liked scritches. Princess parrots have those beautiful long tails...I'm a sucker for a bird with a long tail. You do have to get a bigger cage than you would think to have plenty of tail-space though.
