Preventing Egg Binding

Hey everyone! I've decided I'm going to let Gizmo my male cockatiel have one more clutch before retiring him. I haven't bred in a while because his mate became egg bound twice and we almost lost her. I have retired her and plan to get him a new mate. I'm planning on keeping part or all of the clutch depending on the size. I haven't handfed a baby in a long time so it's very exciting to think about! I want to work on my clicker training skills and what bird is more motivated than a freshly weaned hungry baby? Anyways I'd like to know some practices to keep the breeding pair health along with the babies. Again I am not new to this but I'm a little shy after what happened last year.

The main thing is giving calcium supplements and all the vitamins and such they need to help prevent it. But sometimes it does happen even if you've done all that. Once they egg bind, there's a big chance that it will happen again, so any female that does it, should retire them right away from anymore egg laying.

A healthy diet and exercise is also important for the egg laying hen.
