American Bulldog Mix,
Okay, so my husband I have been trying for almost 8 months to get pregnant. We have been married now for a year and 2 months. I was so ready to give up when I took a pregnancy test and the results were in! I'm pregnant! I have my first appointment for the 6th in PA. I was very surprised and happy. I expect I'm about 4 and a half weeks now.

My concern and advice needed is that I have a very low weight. What can I do about it? I'm not painfully skinny with bony wrists, etc, but I am 19 years old, 5'2 and 98 pds. I have always been petite my whole life. It's never affected me, but I was told that since I'm such a low weight and my baby will be depleting me of a lot of nutrients that my body may see it as a threat and try to miscarriage. Is this true?

I eat lots of fruit and snack all day on fruit (I love fruit), teddy grams, chips, etc. My meals consist of fast food, fruit, chicken nuggets, stouffers, fish, sandwiches, etc. Pretty much what the kids I nanny eat I eat. So I eat a good mix of healthy and junk. Yet I don't gain weight :( Any suggestions?

Just keep increasing the volume you eat, but make sure it's even across the board. You can eat all the fruit and vegetables you like, but without carbs, you won't gain much.

Just make sure that you're eating 'good stuff', don't try and accelerate the process by eating lots of crisps. You're also very young, so you'll probably need to eat more. Some people just don't put on weight easily; I have to force myself to eat, and I'm 31!

After all that, you're better off speaking to a dietician/doctor than the faceless masses of the internet.

Congratulations !!!! what great news
You must both be so excited.
Sure sounds like you are eating healthy enough
It has been so many years since me being pregnant, I thought the best would be to attach a very informative link, pertaining to weight gain.

Weight gain in pregnancy

Once again, congrats to both of you

Congrats!! I would just advise to eat whenever you are hungry. I have had a couple miscarriages, but I don't think it was due to a low weight. Hope all goes well with your pregnancy!

Website was very interesting, lol, I cannot see myself 28-40 pds heavier lol.
So you guys think it would hurt if i drank Ensure?

I don't think it would hurt. You may want to go to your local drug store and pick up some folic acid pills. It will help to avoid a miscarriage.

I'm already on the prenatal vitagummies. I can't take pills. I used to as a kid, but now just the sight and smell make me sick. Does anyone know any good prenatal gummies? The one I'm on now are missing 50% of some vitamins (calcium, A, C, Iron, etc)

Thanks Wulfgeist!

:jumping40:jumping40Woo hoo congrats Mara :). And to your husband !
Erin will have a little brother or sister :). Just kidding :/

Wow , about you having trouble gaining weight , I hate you :(. lolol
No ,really , I would talk to your doctor before taking ANY extra vitamins !
Let them tell you what to take or not to take right now , this is no time to guess.
I'm sure they can give you a Rx for a vitamin if you can't find one over the counter.
I had a couple of misses but it had nothing to do with vitamins or lacking of them.

When I was a teen I used to drink Ensure by the case to gain weight , but nothing ever worked for me . My weight would eventually climb as I got older though.
But I was always a skinny kid , so I think you might be the same....
I couldn't picture myself gaining baby weight either. But from what I'm told, when your really thin your body will snap back to its origional self after your first child.
And if your toned and active , the second will be the same.
Once you hit the forties , good luck. Lololol

Lots of luck to you and your hubby and again , CONGRATULATIONS 60:

Congratulations and best wishes for you and your baby. Do talk to your doctor about your diet, and concerns about being able to gain weight in a healthy way. I once (a long time ago) worked in a Mothercare store (maternity and baby clothes) and was inwardly horrified when some women would boast about how much weight they had gained during their pregnancy, to the point where I worried about their health! As a teenage store clerk, I had to bite my tongue for sure! You cannot base your weight gain goals on anyone else's - as you mentioned, you are fine-boned to begin with. But make sure you get plenty of calcium - if you are okay with dairy products, eat your yoghurt! :) Or ice cream!

Oh man , a excuse to eat ice cream !!!

Congratulations!!!! I too have a slight build and when I delivered my babies I was lighter than before I got pregnant which most friends thought I was "so lucky" but the truth was I was not, I had nothing in reserve and was tired before I even started my day. ( I was also so low in iron I needed transfusions).

Best advice I can give is drink lots of milk. Cut the junk food to a minimum and try and eat healthy foods. Maybe rice and Pasta if you want to gain some weight.

Enjoy your pregnancy, I loved being pregnant!

Thanks! I've been eating more junk food in attempt to gain weight as I assumed it'd bring in a lot more calories than the fruit I'm eating would. But I've also picked up Boost Plus, which the pharmacist said would help in edition to prenatal gummies and to my weight gain. The only problem is it has a lot of vitamins too. Is it dangerous to take too many vitamins?

It depends on what the vitamins are, I'd make a list of what's in everything you are taking then call your doctor's office to be doubly sure!
