Welcome to the forums, KC! A Big Mac is quite the reward for excellent grades! Have you done some research to learn of the responsibilities and challenges of large parrot companionship?

Great job, I'll give you an "A" for research!! Have you had an opportunity to handle a macaw?

Once a while ago (dad's friend) I wasn't scared at all, and I was super comfortable.

Also i'm super excited for this! I've been working daily to get these good grades and can only hope for the best. I'm 15 so of course I won't be responsible most times, thanks for helping!

That's what we're here for! Was just curious what your experience is with birds in general. Macaws are high maintenance/hi reward birds, such complex and intelligent companions. There may be times you'll need the support and assistance of your parents, such as potential vet visits and bills, expenditures for food and toys, etc.

Yeah, my dad offered to pay for food, we have found an avian pet or whatever its called. My dad is on board.

That's awesome!! I hope your dad knows this is going to be quite expensive, as macaws from breeders can be around the $1500-2500 range. Also a good quality cage (King cages are excellent) are an additional few hundred dollars, as well as you'll want a vet checkup the first week of your new MAC, as well as food, toys and macs usually like playstands!

We defiantly understood that

Sorry, but this was very upsetting!
As to answer one question, I have looked into Colleges that allow pets. I would ditch my significant other (assuming i've had this macaw since this summer), (I don't know maybe I wont?, you never know). The finance is hard, but my dad is willing to pay for it as of right now.
Another comment about the money. Don't you technically take that risk with a lot of things? Cars, kids, homes? (I'm only 15 so please don't be too harsh but I want honest comments.
That is why you should not go forward with a mac!
Cars and homes are stuff! Kids grow up!
What if your dad wanted to expand his business, and decided the best way to do this was to use your college fund? Also to save money, and your age was close enough, he decided to declare you as an emancipated minor! Best thing? Off to the military with you! How would you feel? Quite upset! But remember you still grow up and will be independent! Also, emotionally, you are able to sort all of this out and deal with it!
On the other hand, your 'companion' gets screwed! Just another nail in the wall!

ALSO, another note, I always doubt myself when speaking in situations like these. Lets just ASSUME I had a MAC. If my significant other, would not be OK with something my father gave me since the age of 15, i'm just saying I would not appreciate that, and would strongly fight against it. If she still was so "confident" that she did not need it. I don't think things would end in a very good way. Also, why would I knowingly go into a relationship when I knew the other girl would not like my bird? I am Just 15 and might not know what "True love" is or whatever. I'm pretty goofy, and if I keep the same personality that I have right now, I don't think any girl would date me lol.
